PSA: There are still great people in the community

Like many aspects of life, we mostly hear horror stories in regards to the League Community (toxicity, trolling, etc.) Well yesterday, I had 2 incredible experiences within an hour:

  1. I made it to Gold 5 in Solo Queue! After 2 years of practicing and climbing, I finally got within 1 win from achieving a promotion to Gold 5. I notified my team that if we won, I'd get up to G5 for the first time ever. Without anyone trolling, my teammates rallied with positive attitudes and helped me get that win!

  2. A stranger gave me a skin as a gift! I played a Team Builder game shortly after getting to Gold 5. Upon joining, all 4 of my teammates were playing champions with their respective PROJECT skins. I was playing Mordekaiser, so they asked why I wasn't playing as a champ with the PROJECT skin. I explained that I am getting married in May and needed to save money, meaning I have no money to put into RP to get the PROJECT skins. After the game, one of my teammates gifted me a Mordekaiser skin and said "Consider it a wedding gift."

TL;DR The community isn't always negative, please post more positive stories!

well, the Yasuo in my last game didn't rage, troll or afk

One time I made my status "Don't gift me" and I received like 3 mystery skins in a week... so I changed it because I couldn't deal with all that power. However, I agree there are still indeed some good people left on LoL :D Just gotta be nice and they'll show up.

One time, in champ select... we all got the champs we wanted in the roles we wanted.

I haven't had a positive experience in a really long time.

Once, I had no one tell each other to kill themselves.

I've had more helpful and friendly teammates than I've had toxic ones. Players who've given me helpful tips and advice for when I was learning the jungle or playing a role I was unfamiliar with. I've even had people ask "you ok?" when I've been rather negative to myself in game.

We have nice players. I bet you (the person reading this) consider yourself a nice player most of the time. Just going in with a good attitude and an acceptance for mistakes goes a long way.

And yes, there are exceptions. They don't give you free reign to be a dick, they are to show that even you have limits. It's up to you to decide how many exceptions you need.

I had interface issues in a match that prevented me from scrolling the map with my mouse. I fixed it by leaving the match then returning. The Fizz I was laning against at the time was kind enough to let farm the current wave.

Then he immediately killed me.

Temporary kindness counts, right?

This community is not that bad like people make it out to be.

Monkey D Luffy9/10/2015, 6:40:31 AM2 votes

It's sad that these things are rare and don't happen more often.

There really are great people, like me kappa

also props to the guy that gave you that skin, that's really nice of the person.

I went Quinn top against a Lissandra once and, throughout the entire game and post match screen, got complimented by her for doing so well during the laning phase and the remainder of the game. I felt pretty warm and fuzzy inside afterwards; hopefully I can be just as humble in my future losses too.

There are good people in all MOBA community the problem is finding them I took a break and played smite for like 5 hours yesterday and good the community in that game is god awful as well, players Auto Locking gods every game almost 99% of my games were thrown off just as here, players arguing screaming report, the chat harassment is just insane, however after about 5 hours of nothing but toxic match-ups and surrender @ 10's I was able to get 2 good matches, the same problem as League.

On the other hand here is some more good news, those who are tired of getting restrictions on League and tired of this community well, I understand there are good helpful, and nice players in both games League OF Legends, Smite, DOTA, HOTS, however in HOTS they recently added "Chat Restrictions"

http://us.battle.net/heroes/en/blog/19818500/introducing-new-reporting-options-and-the-silence-penalty-9-7-2015

The only thing is "in HOTS Blizzard" has promised to "Manually Review" players accounts unlike Riot Games, and DOTA 2, if a player has been incorrectly chat restricted and massively reported by toxic players, blizzard will manually remove the restrictions, unlike in League OF Legends, you get matched with so many hateful players doing Solo Queue quite often on some days get spam reported in either DOTA 2, or here and magically get restrictions that can't be lifted.

Hey there "CENSORED", Game Master Dartalyan here bows, I hope that you are doing well today! Thank you very much for your patience while waiting for a response!! :)

With regard to the new reporting system that is going to be implemented in Heroes of the Storm I cannot go into detail about how the mechanics of the system work. What I can tell you though is, should you find that you are penalized and do not believe it is accurate, please create an appeal ticket. The action will be reviewed and should the game master find your chat was not worthy of a penalty, the penalty would be reversed and your account would return ot the standing it had prior to the most recent action. ^_^

That being said, if you do have any suggestions about how the system can be improved, then we're definitely open to those! Feel free to post those suggestion on the Heroes of the Storm suggestion forum, here: http://us.battle.net/heroes/en/forum/

As always, I hope this was helpful! Thanks again for your time and patience here, I wish you the best of luck! waves

All MOBA based games can have a good community but the match-making systems are awfully broken, I would say in League OF Legends, Team Builder, or Normal Mode would likely have the least toxicity, but Draft is insane.

One time i was playing with a pre- lvl 30 friend of mine. I don't have a smurf so i used my regular account. We got paired up with mid 20 players and i stomped the enemy riven. She wasn't salty just very upset that she was matched with me. I told her to relax, and i said sorry. Told her she wont be seeing more of players like me unless they smurf. Then i gifted her a skin. She was so happy lol

There's plenty of nice people, just some (like myself) don't always use the chat unless to say something important and otherwise just use pings.

When I do really feel the urge to say something however, it's when I see a really bad play. And I'm not toxic about it, I ussualy just ask why and try to help, but people sometimes get angry when you try to help them improve and take you for being toxic.

Like once I simply asked my top lane rumble why he tele'd to drag pit when there was already 3 of us taking down drag. It was like legit secured without him having to to to help. Top tower was lost because he left enemy riven by herself up there. I just said he shouldn't have done that and he raged at me all game.

DeynaTaggerung9/10/2015, 8:53:03 PM1 votes

Yeah, recently IN RANKED we had a graves adc who really just played poorly and bot lane was our weakest link that game. We lost, now I won't say it was all his fault because mistakes were made by all, but their fed vayne was a large factor in our demise. Sounds like a chance for everyone to flame right? Post-game he said "wow, sorry guys I don't know what's wrong with me lately" and 3 of the other 4 people on our team chimed in with things like "dude we all have bad games", "take a break, it'll be fine" (I'm making those up because I don't remember exactly but it was along those lines). We talked for a bit and he seemed to be a lot more cheerful by the end.

Positive things do happen, and remember that if I hadn't been one of the people responding kindly that would have been 1 less voice and it wouldn't have been as special for him. Be the change you want to see.

ƒoes9/11/2015, 9:13:44 PM1 votes

I try to be one of those nice people in the community. However, I have my limits.

  1. I won't gift a stranger
  2. I won't surrender because somebody on the enemy team wants a win so they can finally get into Silver 5 (I know, I'm a piece of bronze trash)
  3. I won't honor people unless they really deserve it.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'll give somebody a penta if they've gotten a quadra and the penta is literally within reach (unless they're a toxic person), and I've done this before. Ah, I remember a time where a Mordekaiser was about to get a penta, and I was the last kill. He was pretty nice, too, so I figured he deserved it. Unfortunately, the Cho'Gath stole it :L That Mordekaiser and I are friends now.

So yeah, while I can't quite remember many nice things that have happened to me in the community, I definitely remember the good things I've done.

Lugg9/9/2015, 6:28:41 PM1 votes

Yes, there are great people in the community, but they are minority anymore it seems.

Rockernalley9/9/2015, 6:43:49 PM1 votes

I'm a nice player but fear i'm moving toxic. My last 5 games ranked 2 games norms 3 games had 5 Dc's. So it is nice to hear a reassuring story like yours. Reminds me there are good people in league and I need to stay a positive player.

slippykitten9/9/2015, 9:57:06 PM1 votes

Yes, there are good people left, except they have been mostly driven out of this game due to extreme, unhindered toxicity.

Daen9/9/2015, 11:31:47 PM1 votes

My negative experiences in LoL stem almost exclusively from poor skill matchups (both within the team and between teams), rather than negative personalities. It's actually really rare for me to have a game where I leave thinking "wow that guy's attitude ruined my experience", though I suppose part of that is that I generally play with at least one other person in Skype so we can vent to each other.

As far as positive stories are concerned, I had a game where both teams spent about 30 seconds just dancing together while waiting for dragon to spawn. A lot of the best experiences seem to come from lightening up and sort of putting aside the competitive edge for a second and just...having fun.

Jeanne fan club9/10/2015, 12:06:44 AM1 votes

I'm glad you can find these people, I haven't had a ranked game where my teammates haven't flamed for their mistakes. I'm stuck in gold 2 and if I play a game I will get teammates who wont play their main, will blame other positions for them losing lane, act toxic the whole game and proceed to troll after their first death. I'm glad some people are having a good time with this game, I've lost almost all of my duo partners because of how bad my queues are. They have told me that they got the amount of trolls they experience in a month, in about 5 games with me. I don't know how my mmr is bad to a point where I only get cocky arrogant players, but I really want it to stop so I can finally enjoy ranked again.

Me and my team were talking about where I could give away my turtles.

NegaDKR9/10/2015, 5:22:48 AM1 votes

The toxic players aren't so bad every other game or so, it's when you have them one match after another that they make you hate League.
