Returning after a very long layoff... need some advice.

Hello everyone!

I'm an older player, and honestly, I took a very long hiatus just because I became very jaded with the game. I had grinded to level 30 during Season 3 and wound up with 115 ranked matches to my credit during that season. I had began to get ready for S4 and that's when I really got jaded. I did not record a single competitive match in S4 nor did I play any unranked games. I just left.

I honestly think that through the grind that the community had just gotten to me as I am a non-toxic, team-first player. I just put it down one day, and never came back. Now, I don't have any illusions of grandeur at my age (I'm pushing 40) but I would like to be able to play meaningful games of League again, as I always did find the game itself a lot of fun, if I had a solid team together -- or at very least people who would cooperate and not just instantly devolve into toxicity.

NOW, for the main reasoning of my post...

I've been gone a long time, and honestly, I've thought about just rerolling a new account and starting again as a "rookie." However, I've got a lot of champions including a decent amount of them that I have paid real money for, so I'd prefer not to just lose them... but I also don't want instant toxicity towards me because its going to take me some time to even get back used to the game.

What would you do? Just restart and write the cash off as a loss? Or have their been some type of programs for returning players that I could possibly start anew (again, my membership has always been of the highest standing -- never even received a warning for anything) with some of my champions or any other program like that? I'm guessing no, but as I said, it has been a long time.

I'm definitely not looking to get back into ranked, at least not right away -- my only concern is not losing my champions, but I just don't want to be a burden in normals, either. What would you guys advise I do?

Thanks very much for your feedback!

why dont you just start playing man? play normal draft, teambuilder w/e. you wont be more of a burden than i, bronze 3. really, as long as you give your best what can happen? You'll always get the random bullshit reports from some frustrated players that try to blame the loss on you. DONT WORRY ABOUT THAT. play the game, you'll be fine. dont level a new account. enjoy the one with content man! add me if you want. we can play some together!

Well, I'm obviously going to play at least a few bot games because I don't know any of the changes that have happened since I've been gone. I probably will just follow your advice once I'm ready to play. I mean, I own like 60 champions and a lot of runes and rune pages, I really don't want to give it up. I just know playing with other Level 30's right now would make me look quite the disgrace.

Bots/Normals. ARAM to fool around with builds.

Biggest change is jungle and you should research that.

Definitely don't throw away an account with 50+ champs on it!

Play some bot matches to get used to the mechanics and to try champs that might have changed since you were last here.

It may be a little rough when you jump back into PvP, but the matchmaker will adjust your rating downards if you keep losing more than you win. If you're concerned about being forced into specific roles you're not good at, try Team Builder.

Definitely practice with bots first. They're a lot easier than human players and tend to do really dumb things once in a while, but they're great for learning or relearning a champion's skills.

The champs that you'll really want to take another look at are Ashe, Sion, and Skarner, because they've all changed quite a bit recently. Skarner got a new passive and numbers, Ashe's passive got replaced by her Q, and her new Q is a really useful power boost/rapid-fire attack. Meanwhile, Sion got totally overhauled and only slightly resembles what he used to be. It was all for the better, though, since he's an absolute beast of a tanky brawler now. His ult takes a little practice to aim properly, but it's a real force of destruction when it's successful.
