I was looking around and was thinking of changing my summoner name. The problem is that the name is already taken, but 6 or so of the letters are capitalized. Does that mean I will not be able to change my name to the same spelling, if I wanted to just have the first letter capitalized?

No... It doesnt matter if theres caps or not. You can't have the same name as another summoner with the same spelling O.O
If you own the summoner name and wish to change the capitalization, you may send a support ticket to Riot and they may do so for you at no cost.
If you do not own the name, then you will have to wait for it to become inactive before claiming it. When you do claim it, you can set the capitalization however you like. Summoner names are not case sensitively unique, meaning PORO is the same as Poro or pOrO, etc.
