Hello everyone, I was wondering what the proper steps of getting into the industry was. After learning that LoL was considering an Olympic sport, I realized how far video games, as an industry, has come along. Anyways, any information would be great.

Thank you,

Best thing to do is hit up some PAX events, or anything of the sort. College program events, other gaming events...Meet new people, etc. Since I started playing LoL a few months ago I haven't been to any PAX events or anything, but I signed up at my local college holding a Christmas Tournament, keep in mind at first winning isn't the goal, just meet new people and make bonds. Also you can stream your gameplay (any kind) using Twitch.tv - I'd say these are pretty good, possibly essential steps to becoming a better player overall/getting your name out there.

There are tons of ways to get into the industry, like you don't have to be just a programmer as companies need other positions filled as well. But as suggested before having and creating connections with people is really good. If you are in school look into clubs or events going on and mingle. Look for internships at companies. If you know how to code maybe try creating a project of your own (simple game/a fancy website idk).
