Why its finally time to give up league for me after 3 years

Its weird hearing Dunkey, one of the funniest youtubers out there, actually say some real hard hitting truth.

When I first started playing, Dunkey was the first league youtuber I came across and he has slowly but surely become my favourite youtuber. Back in 2012 I had heard of League and for the first time in a very long time I had a sense of excitement for it but also mystery. Do you remember that feeling you got when you were a kid at Christmas and you had just opened up your new video game? That was me when looking up videos of League on youtube. The whole MOBA idea was incredibly alien yet fresh to me at the same time and I instantly became addicted to it.

I still remember my first game. I loaded Summoners Rift and was greeted by the crisp announcers voice briefly explaining the goal of the game and was thrust into bot as Garen. I was even more mesmerised when I saw the minions fighting each other, it was like a massive war in an RTS game, but IM the hero in the middle! It seems gimmicky looking back but it really did immerse me into the universe. The map was lush with green colours, torches and the occasional sound of a distant monster to add to the mysterious element of the jungle. It seems weird that today i can cite all the camps, their locations, and the layout of the walls in the jungle but it was SO daunting to me back then.

Achieving my first kill was extremely satisfying mostly due to the announcer, giving me that extra addictive motive to win. Isn't it also crazy how you did not know ANY champions at the time? I certainly was amazed by the variety of them and yearned to find out what they did and how they played. Now, however, I can time all their abilities and their options to the point of very little variety. Taking the last hit at the nexus and watching it explode into the nostalgic 'VICTORY' screen made me grin with excitement. At that point I knew that this game would be amazing.

While reading that you might have been thinking about your first game and drifting away in a nostalgic haze. Now compare the feeling of that to the feeling of your recent games. Personally I'm missing that sense of achievement and wonder. Everything has become stale and bland to me, however, this isn't to do with the game itself more that its missing that essential spark it used to have with me.

I don't come out of a lost game thinking 'ok we lost but at least I got to play as Jax, he was really fun' like I used to. Instead I come out frustrated at the flavour of the month picks. When I used to win games, the lobby would be filled with friendly chatter from both teams because we were all on the same level because we were all learning the game. Winning a game after this long just feels bland. I blame this on leagues lower than average skill cap (not saying there's anything wrong about it), whenever you're in lane and you get flash ulted by a warwick and bursted down before you could even react you dont feel like your opponents were better than you, NO, you feel cheated

The point is, I am rarely having fun with the game and those incidents that I am are when I'm playing with friends, something that I contribute more to doing stuff with my friends than the game itself. Lets be honest here, League causes more arguments with friends than it makes them happy.

I'll probably still stick around to play a few games with my friends but for once I'm tired of playing League, and for some weird reason, it feels good to say that
