@IronStylus - Sivir VU thematic question

IronStylus - really appreciate the in-depth background and insights you continually share with us regarding Sivir's VU and on whatever project you're tackling. I for one am excited to try her out when she hits the live servers and will withhold any firm judgements before then. I actually have a question regarding the current look and feel of Sivir's spell shield as it appears now on the PBE. I recall back in July when you addressed a few top-line questions regarding how Sivir's new Spell Shield would change aesthetically, you had said - ""It looks great. Feels more tied into the weapon as being a possible source for the shield."

I've seen how the new animation look on Sivir's E, and while it is definitely an upgrade visually - I'm not really sure I see the weapon and her E thematically connected. Perhaps future lore might address this, but I had thought back in July you had meant animation implications. Thematically, it bugged me a bit that Spell Shield always seemed a little out of place on Sivir's kit, while mechanically and balance wise it makes sense.

Just hoping for any insights. Thanks!

Good question. Some things indeed change and I think the goal to get the spell shield more thematically appropriate to her weapon wasn't as achievable as I would have liked in a heavy visual way due to how fast the cast time is.

That being said, there's more story behind Sivir and her weapon that isn't evident at the moment and might come to light at a later point, stay tuned for that ;)

It is a great skill of course, but I see that it has remnants of old SivirSivir lore, when she was a bounty hunter and had nothing to do with Shurima and the desert.

This is the current [E] skill.

**Spell Shield ** ACTIVE: Sivir creates a magical barrier that lasts up to 1.5 seconds, blocking the next enemy ability used on Sivir. If an ability is blocked by the shield, Sivir gains mana. MANA RESTORED: 80 / 95 / 110 / 125 / 140 COOLDOWN: 22 / 19 / 16 / 13 / 10

Spell Shield is an interesting defensive skill to the old Sivir, but now the skill can have a much greater thematic appeal and more interesting gameplay. The suggestion would be to continue a defensive skill, but add a thematic effect related to Shurima desert. item 3069

New [E] skill.

**Mirage Shield ** ACTIVE: Sivir creates a magical barrier that lasts up to 1.5 seconds, blocking the next enemy ability used on Sivir. If an ability is blocked by the shield, Sivir instantly becomes stealthed for 1.25 seconds and gains mana. MANA RESTORED: 80 / 95 / 110 / 125 / 140 COOLDOWN: 22 / 19 / 16 / 13 / 10

PS: the 1.25 secons time of stealth is only a suggestion, all numbers could be adjusted, what matters here is the thematic evolution of the skill.

The ability would possess some fast opacity visual effect as the Sivir model disappearing just when the Mirage Shield blocks a skill. Seriously, her weapon is some kind of magic Shurima key, even during the in game animations, you can use [Q] Boomerang Blade and still perform an auto attack, or even use 3 times in a row Ricochet, how can there be so many blades? Her weapon probably has some power of the desert mirages.

Thanks for reading and I'm sorry for any grammatical error.

Hm, how about instead of tying it into her weapon, which is TRUE one of the most significant choices in the character's design, you COULD go with a clever wonder-woman esque deflect using a bracer of some kind. Have the bracer glow and a little effect to go with it, then an animation of her like, moving her arm and a ricochet sound.

At least, that's my thoughts.

What does VU even stand for? The term's been thrown around so much and I don't think I ever even knew.
