I'm not sure you understand the premise. You are taking the name of someone who got permabanned. There's a good chance that among the reasons they were permabanned is for being a jerk.

So now someone comes along who recognizes your name as the person who was a jerk and thinks it's still them rather than you with their name.

Only that XJ9 person, and only because he was mentioned in this thread. I'm trying to think if i remember the names of any of the people who have been jerks to me over the years (one or more of whom may have been permaed since), and nothing is coming to mind, but that doesn't mean i wouldn't recognize one of the names if i saw it.

I'm just good at the game and i like to disrespect (spam emotes / makes jokes) in chat so enemy teams reported me. I'm always nice to my teams.

So i got a lot of chat restrictions (never a suspension) but riot changed their policy. if you get 5 sanctions you get perma-banned lulz

I can't even get back my summoner name.

(tribunal chat logs that got me banned were ridiculous i wasn't even toxic, just making jokes and laughing with friends in chat lmaooo. but i guess when ppl are getting rekt in ranked they get mad and when they see someone having fun they want to take revenge as they can [slayer-jinx-wink]

The catch with this is that if a player got permabanned, then they're very likely going to get permabanned again. And if they're not, then they've "reformed", which is apparently what Lyte (and subsequently all of the report system's mechanics) is all about. There's no outcome here where a toxic player gets their name.

If someone gets permabanned, they arent supposed to be allowed back in the game. Their behavior was so bad that Riot said "We dont want this guy in our game, period". Its not just being a dick for a bit. If you are permabanned you most likely deserve it. Except for mistakes but these can be resolved with the support.

Eh, true. But the biggest downside to being permabanned is having to climb back to level 30 and to your elo, having to buy all your champs back, losing all the RP and skins you bought, etc. I think the name is the least of all the things you'd not want to be banned for.

I agree that cheating is terrible but please don't equate it to mass murder. One is clearly much worse than the other.

Equating cheating in a video game to mass murder, definitely not blowing things out of proportion. So you get a cheater in one of your games, and you don't have any fun for 20-40 minutes. What exactly happened in that match to make you equate your suffering to the mental scars of the families, and the physical death of victims of for instance Paris?

Won't the player who got permabanned just make a new account with the same name then (or just rename their current acount)? Riot bans acounts not players now. So there would be little to stop players from just reusing the name of their permabanned acount, especially since most of them aren't remembered by anyone other than the player who made the account (because most banned players are anonymous bronze-gold players, not high elo streamers).

Maybe make the name unable to take for the first 1 or maybe 2 months after the permaban. After that make it possible to take that name. As someone else pointed out. Someone could make a new account with the same name after a permaban.

The perma bans are not permanent , they are only 6 month bans FYI . This account has gotten one before , the client is incapable of perma bans . . .

you are a dumbass... you got a 6 month ban then not a permaban. People who get permabans have the ban timer set to 10-20 years in the future, you are right they aren't permanent but they are not 6 month bans, that is a completely separate punishment
