SnowDown Shop Suggestions

I thought the idea of this shop was really fantastic, however the execution seemed a bit off for a lot of players. I like my shop but I don't think its the greatest. Here are some ideas I think would improve it and hopefully it happens next year.

  1. If you already own a skin for a champ then you are less likely to get a skin for that champ in your shop. If you have multiple then it would be less and less likely.
  2. The skins that are going on sale already for 50% shouldn't be included into your shop, unless it was for a higher discount. (My gf got two for 40% off and it was pretty lame that 1/3 of her shop is basically worthless since they'll go on sale later for less.)
  3. Give us one reroll! I'm sure most people have that one skin in their shop that if it was anything else then their shop would be 100x better.
  4. I feel like my shop doesn't correlate with my champion mastery so much as I thought it would. Maybe I got my hopes up on a few champs I wanted skins for and just didn't get lucky with the randomness.

I've seen some other thoughts that are really cool like having only one available the first day then add one more for each day then by the sixth day you'll be able to have all of them available. I thought it would be cool and help build anticipation.

I thought the SnowDown shop was a really great idea, I hope it happens again next year. Please leave comments on other suggestions and riot please take into consideration these ideas.

I voted yes because I think 5 out of 6 were not bad deals. I also had the privilege of not having a shop littered with multiples of the same champion or skins for champions that I do not own. I got lucky, though I'm aware many others did not.

To address your points:

  1. This does not agree with collectors. Your champion skin count should have no impact on eligibility in randomization. I would have been disappointed if this had been implemented, as that would have removed Officer Vi from my shop.

  2. Maybe. 4 of my skins are Legacy skins with 50% sales this month. Two of them are better or equal sales. One is a 40% on a 520 skin, which isn't worthy of complaint (a 975 would have been borderline). But since deciding to buy it means I can get it better on a specific day, I can see why even a 40% deal on a skin I wasn't considering shouldn't have been featured in my shop. But 50% is fine. It doesn't have to be better, since the 50% is for a whole two weeks.

This could have been fixed with a specific programming order that I will describe later.

  1. I believe a "reroll" function would be terrible as it could easily give a worse or similar situation to the skin you are avoiding. If you fix the issues that would require a reroll, it becomes irrelevant.

  2. I agree that champion mastery as the driving factor would have made for a lot happier summoners and "unique" skin shops.

I have different things that I felt went awry in this event.

  1. Randomized discounts - I've seen several folks post two skins at 30% or two skins at 40%. I thought the obvious thing to do would have been a clear cut 20/30/40/50/60/70. It would have been nice if one of my 40% was actually a 60%.

  2. Multiple Skins for Unowned Champions - I can sort of understand this if the summoner owns less than 16 champions, but it would have been nice to limit "new champion suggestions" to one for people with 20+ champions. The store doesn't live up to the "unique" expectations if a third of it caters to champions you don't own. I saw a post with 2/3 of their shop belonging to unowned champions. That shouldn't happen.

  3. Multiple Skins for the same Champion - I saw someone post a shop with 4 Gangplank skins and another with 3 Lux skins (and on a person that didn't even own Lux). There should have been a function to remove the champion from randomization if already featured in the shop.

If I were to improve the system, I would have assigned discounts in the order of cards. First card would always be your 20%. Last card would always be your 70%. Summoners have to reveal their cards from 20-70 (left to right).

First and second cards have a chance to be a skin for a champion the summoner doesn't own. This chance directly correlates with number of champions the summoner owns. If the first card drawn does not appear in summoner's champion pool, the second card cannot be a new champion unless summoner has less than sixteen champions.

Each card drawn checks the prior cards champion to avoid duplicates.

Champion skins are determined by random number generator.

If 0-9, then Champion with Level 0 or Level 1 Mastery. If 10-24, then Champion with Level 2 Mastery. If 25-44, then Champion with Level 3 Mastery. If 45-69, then Champion with Level 4 Mastery. If 70-99, then Champion with Level 5 Mastery.

If no champions can be selected from pool, the system rerolls. If the champion selected has no eligible skins, the system rerolls. The system has a 75% chance of giving a summoner a skin for a champion with Level 3 Mastery or higher.

I'm sure there are people that don't really use the Mastery system, so it might require a 5 fail loop that defaults to a RNG with 0-9 limits to avoid infinite looping.
