Adventure Mode

Issue - Valoran is an increasingly detailed landscape of characters, location and histories, but the only real way that players interact with, and learn about that landscape is through a character portrait or voice over. Despite the wonderful variety of characters, the most any player knows about them is in their bio.
Solution - A new game, or possibly game mode (this one seems more complicated) that allows players to take control of one of the champions of the league and play through a moment in Valoran’s history, or perhaps craft new histories of their own.

Ok, all the intro stuff aside, this idea is for an Adventure game starring the champions of the League outside of their little summoner controlled arenas. The plots would probably be episodic in nature, rather than one long plot. In this way a variety of stories could be told without the massive resource investment that one long adventure game would be. Players would have a choice among a number of characters that make sense for the plot of each episode.

So, for example, an episode about dark spirits of the void invading the sewers of Noxus one would have the option to play a few different characters with differing reasons to be a part of the plot. Katarina Katarina could be asked to go clean the situation up, and she would be flippant and commanding with the residents of the city while she tracked down the gate to the void. DrMundo Mundo could hear about it and go looking for a kind of flesh he’s never ‘played’ with before. Morgana Morgana could have the spirits ruin a souffle and fly into a rage to kill them all. Either way, this example just shows the variety of angles the simplest plots could have.

In terms of gameplay there are obviously a lot of options, but I envision just two. The one that is closest to the normal LoL experience would be to mod the actual game to allow for dialogue choices and brief cutscenes. This includes the benefit of gameplay working the same way it does during a normal league match, which makes the abilities of your character more closely mimic how you already play them. It keeps continuity of art as well, but that’s a tricky negative. Making Noxus or Demacia, or even a random field in Ionia, and then making NPC models may be too much work in the current frame of the game.

The other way I would want to see done would be more of the classic isometric dungeon games like Baldur’s Gate or Icewind Dale. The focus would be more heavily placed upon dialogue than a gameplay style that is exactly the same as league, but the graphics could be a lot less complex and the locals could basically be moving portraits rather than a living, breathing game environment.

This adventure concept would allow players to run around in Valoran and see the different locations, possibly start to prefer characters they didn’t like before, and generally speaking just get more in depth with their love of League. I’m going to post a very rough draft scenario below this post to make the idea clearer, but I want to know what you guys think of the mode idea, and possibly what scenarios you would want to play out.

**Scenario - Spies in Ionia - Historical ** Playable Characters - Sivir , Karma , Kennen

A council has just finished its meeting in southern Ionia, and concerns about the possibility of Noxian spies have surfaced. The character walks into town when a herald runs up to them. “You’re --- right?”
Sivir - 1.“Yeah, I’m pretty famous kid.” 2.Nods 3.”Never heard of her, is she as talented and beautiful as everyone says she is?”
Karma - 1.”Of course, has the meeting already ended?” 2.”What’s the matter?” 3. “Be calm little one.”
Kennan- 1. “Did the ears give me away?” 2. “Wow, I’m getting rusty, little kid sees me first thing. Some ninja.” 3. “You mean the tiny ninja? Maybe you’ve heard of me.”
(Kid’s response based on the dialogue option chosen, but essentially)- “Good, the Elders have asked for your help.”

The scenario goes on where the champion is brought to the elder presiding over the area and is asked to quietly investigate the possibility that a Noxian spy has infiltrated. Sivir will be offered money, Karma will just be expected to do it, and Kennan may need convinced. Either way, dialogue options in town should lead them to a little caravan with a merchant selling goods who has an odd accent. He’s the cover for a five man team of spies who are going throughout the town.

Side Plot - There are also some Noxians in town who are just trying to sell their goods and mean no harm, and the player will have the chance to mess that one up.

The plot will take the player to a little outpost on the outskirts of the city where they have to fight through a Noxian base to get to the leader and find out what kind of information they gathered in their spying. This will lead to the discovery that that very day Noxus planned to attack. The player will rush out of the base, heading back toward the city, and find the walls and many buildings in ruins.

The scenario will end and the player would receive an IP reward dependent on their performance.

So, what do you guys think? Would this be an incredible game mode, or just kind of a silly distraction? I had the idea this morning and thought I should share.

I can see the great potential in this, but I have some questions.
The simplest way to make this work would be to make it an AI mode. So how would you rate based on performance? Give the champions increasing handicaps? Make it a coop scripted event?
The other way to inject lore into a game mode would be very short mini games (~10 minutes) that would require cooperation of human players (and possibly AI to fill) to win either side of the game.

Also, this would require to unlock champions temporarily to the summoners, or they would have to buy the champion to play that specific scenario, which would be kind of lame for the new players out there and the players who are not interested in the aforementioned champion.

This is just my initial feedback, feel free to expand on it and discuss, as I am very open to having scripted mini games in LoL (just see the success of games such as Ultimate Bravery and Catch the Teemo).
