Tribunal, Bans, and Toxicity

I realize that there have been many posts on the Tribunal and the out of control toxicity in this game. However, as far as I can tell Riot has yet to give us a good finite answer to these concerns. Quite frankly, I am sick of reporting players every other game for going AFK or being abusive in chat or just ruining the overall experience. My last game, for example, my teammate refused to lane against someone and threatened to "AFK" as if it was no big deal and then did just that when they died. I asked for a report and my teammate just lectured me on the inefficiency of the reporting system. I argued with him of course and it got to the point where we weren't even playing the game anymore and even if we had we would have been too frustrated to play well. After the game was over I realized something though... he was right. If I need to be reporting members of my team every other game for this kind of behavior or if someone who is clearly a toxic player can still threaten AFK like its no big deal, then Riot is not doing the job they claim to be. Our community is still full to the brim with this crap and after reading the posts other players have made, I know I am not the only one who is sick of it. I love this game. I have been playing it for years. I play at least everyday and spend money on skins, I have never been banned, I have never even had a warning. Have I raged once or twice?? Certainly, who hasn't? But I have never intentionally broken the code or ruined my teammates games and I think that it is time that Riot recognize the good players from the bad. Why should players like me have to suffer the crap when, for the most part, we bring a fun experience to the game? What is Riot doing to not only stem the tide of toxic players but make players who are reputable, good sportsmen, feel appreciated and valued? It's insulting that a toxic player can threaten to AFK with no concern for the consequences. It's insulting that my gaming experience can be ruined every other game and nothing gets done about it.

Quite frankly, I am sick of reporting players every other game for going AFK or being abusive in chat or just ruining the overall experience.

I think it's important to remember that this is not the average experience. The average player issues a report in something like 1 out of every 20 games.

That's not to invalidate your experiences. You're an outlier, is all.

My last game, for example, my teammate refused to lane against someone and threatened to "AFK" as if it was no big deal and then did just that when they died. I asked for a report and my teammate just lectured me on the inefficiency of the reporting system.

Two things, here:

First, there's no need to report afks, because there's an automated system to address them. You're more than welcome to if you wish, but it's unnecessary. Leaverbuster is clever.

Second, calling for reports is unnecessary. The system is designed so that it builds cases based on the number of reported games rather than the number of raw reports. This was done explicitly to prevent pre-made groups having more power than a single player.

If I need to be reporting members of my team every other game for this kind of behavior or if someone who is clearly a toxic player can still threaten AFK like its no big deal, then Riot is not doing the job they claim to be.

A little math for you: if only 5% of the playerbase is toxic, you will - on average - run into a toxic player every other game.

That's assuming that no neutral or positive players are ever toxic with you, of course - which is a poor assumption, since those positive players (which make up about 78% of the community) account for 77% of all toxicity seen.

But I have never intentionally broken the code or ruined my teammates games and I think that it is time that Riot recognize the good players from the bad.

Did you miss the Rewards for Positive Players program that they started at the end of Season 4?

It's insulting that a toxic player can threaten to AFK with no concern for the consequences.

Nothing Riot does can make them care about the consequences. All Riot can do is impose those consequences - how the player in question feels about it is entirely up to them.

I think the problem is one of transparency. The tribunal- while not perfect- WAS transparent. All this automated "stuff" is completely opaque. Leaverbuster is ok as is. But Rito should bring back the Tribunal for verbal abuse/negative attitude etc.

similar is verbal abuse. the program is smart but people can figure it out. as long as you are careful and avoid certain keywords and common phrases you can be extremely abusive and the system will not catch you.

It sounds as if you are proud of this and the other things you say you do and get a way with ?

Yet you then say:

but i would be surprised if i havent been reported over 1000 times with no result other than a 720 game chat restriction.

"720" chat restrictions ? I wonder how long it takes to work that off ? Really I do :)

Honestly I wonder if Riot shouldn't just start taking a look at the many people who say such things ...In a way you seem to want to encourage bad behavior. Be Thrilled I don't have a say in the manor lol

Where is option for "I know I'm toxic, just some days I'm less toxic than others?"
