So I have been playing for about a year now and I got silver 4 my first season. This season I get bronze 4. I know I don't belong in that rank, because I play with my silver friends all the time. Now here comes my 10 year cousin, as been playing for a couple months, just hit lvl 30 recently, tries ranked wins 5 out of 5 and gets silver 3... I'm super pissed about this because I play with him all the time and I love him to death, but he belongs in bronze 5. I don't know what I want out of this, maybe a "It's OK it will get better or something", I just need to vent this out and get an explanation on why the hell the system is like this.

Somewhere around low Silver is the average MMR of someone coming into ranked for the first time. Once you're there, if you tank your MMR you'll get placed low the next season. If he's worse than you, he will end up falling down there as well.

yeah the system places new players around silver 4-5. if you get lucky in your promos silver 3 probably. it is very hard to demote out of silver but he will be losing a lot of games soon.
