MMR Dropping For No Reason?

So here I am in silver 4, with a MMR of about 1350. I decide to take a break from ranked until season 5 starts (this was at the very beginning of January) Then season 5 finally hits and I start playing ranked again, I complete one of my provisional matches and decide to check what my mmr is, just to know where im at in the rankings and around where I will be placed. I check it and it is 1,182. So im wondering how I can drop nearly 200 mmr by winning one ranked game in the transition from season 4 to 5. It just doesnt add up to me. I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on my situation, please get back to me, thanks.

the reset seems to have just tanked everyone 's mmr so even if you go 10-0 you will be lower than you started. Anyone that claims otherwise is lying cause I've seen (and had it proven( that a Diamond player went from Diamond to silver 3 even going 7-3 so they seriously screwed something up and we are getting punished for some reason.

Less extreme example: Challenger Tier in s4 (MatLife) went 6-4. He's now in Plat 1.

The way I've heard it described is this:

  1. Riot takes your MMR (1350)
  2. Riot adds the average MMR of all Players (its around silver 3 so its roughly 1400 by your numbers)
  3. They then divide the sum of that (1350 + 1400) by 2. (1375)
  4. That is the MMR that you start seeding with.
  5. Then you play your matches with increased gains/losses (even though their hidden)
  6. Then Riot knocks you down a couple divisions for the real soft reset with increased Gains.

Thats my understanding of how most people fall for the most time.

Well provisionals are to deretmine your MMR, you cannot be surprised if in prosecc you are given this MMR.

Recently I haev stumbled upon this article: http://squidoflegends.blogspot.cz/2015/01/making-most-of-your-placement.html

this might not be completely accurate, but it could give you some idea how it works.

EDIT: though as I read it again... it will not tell you much. So either its broken or it works diffferently

Guys I think they might be implimenting the S4 soft MMR reset where it was (current MMR + 1200)/2 = placements starting MMR and then it would change with the numbers of wins/loss that you get during placements as a rough estimate of where you are then once you hit the range of 100-200 ranked games it would either even out your MMR or get you closer to where you actually belong

There's a partial MMR reset at the start of each season. Unless you are down in Bronze this will lower your MMR, and if you do not win most/all of your placements you will probably drop at least a few divisions from where you were in S4.

It's not supposed to be "I just squeaked into (silver/gold/whatever) in S4, now I can go 5-5 in placements and instantly get (silver/gold/whatever) again". You have to earn your rank each season.

op.gg has its own algorithm its not what your actual mmr is in riot's system.
