Toxicity - The Cure
Just played a game of ARAM, and we lost. The match was 47 (us) to 27 (them). My first thing I say when I lose, with near double their kills was: "GG was fun"
The immediate response from the enemy team was: "gg ez"
So I very plainly said, "Reporting Yorick for bad attitude" Which seemed very appropriate. I was not mad. I got over it instantly. But then the entire enemy team starting going on about being "butt hurt" and calling me a sore loser. It had nothing to do with the loss, I had fun. He deserves to get negative marks for making our community as toxic as it is.
.... How do people get away with treating other human beings like trash? There are no threats to be made. But something needs to give. This is what the entire gaming community is seeing every day. Hell, most gamers jump right on the band wagon and join in thinking they're "cool" for acting like a dick. And when did that happen? When did acting like a prick ever become the norm?
I always treat my opponents with respect, because I know for a fact that they tried their best and sometimes your best isn't good enough. People like that guy that wants to rub in their victory or comeback, need to know that it is absolutely not okay.
Devs can't do anything about it, but everyone knows it. When someone sits in front of a computer, safe behind their screen they tend to feel invulnerable. Like they can say or do anything without consequence, and try and ruin other people's fun just because in some twisted way, they enjoy other people's torment.
The only thing I can think of is that we as gamers are looked down upon. Most, made fun of even. Our hobby being passed off as useless, when sitting and staring blankly at a TV screen is perfectly acceptable. If you people who are the ones making our community toxic are trying to give a little bit of that back, you're pointing it in the wrong direction. The only thing this kind of behavior is going to do is give us gamers a worse name.
I likely won't respond to this discussion once it has been posted, or even look at it for that matter, because I know what kind of replies it is going to get. Because I know my community. I hope that changes someday. Good luck and good gaming. Look forward to seeing you on the Rift.
