Is reporting useless now?

With tribunal mia is reporting just falling on deaf ears because that's really frustrating to see the only attempt at ridding 1% of the toxic community now gone.

Reports are still tracked by an automated system, and if a player gets enough reports their account is flagged for review. It's certainly a slower process without the Tribunal, but reports definitely still mean something.

Reports are flagged for review by Riot, although the restrictions are still automated as its impossible for a Rioter to go through every account, instead the system flags accounts for manual review when a player triggers certain words in a filter such as racist comments, excessive cursing etc or hate comments etc.

If you are not one of those players and get reported a lot the most you get is like 20 chat restrictions 10 ranked restrictions if excessively reported by players who are even toxic themselves.

A good rule to follow is anyone who says they are reporting you just report them back for (Verbal Abuse) because technically they are trying to start an argument.

If someone is really toxic, and makes real life threats do take a snapshot and send a support ticket to Riot it will get taken care of faster.

Um what?! No. It's also used as a deterrent. That's absurd. Filing false reports is against the Summoners Code.

Well it really depends, if a person in a game is being flat out toxic, and someone says "Please stop being abusive in chat or I will report." I wouldn't bother reporting the person because (X) user is being a toxic jerk and I can see it.

However I can provide a couple of examples where players are toxic kindergarten kids who point the finger at each-other yelling to their teachers.

1.) Players who yell " I am reporting you" without any reason just because a player is doing bad, or because there is lack of communication and things go wrong they spend all game talking about how they are going to report someone even after you tell them "I don't care Report Me."

2.) Players on the enemy team who ask the other team to report another user on their team "I would say this is acceptable (If I can see their toxic behavior) in all chat then I am going to report them anyways, otherwise without knowing the situation myself I am just going to report the other person who keeps putting in chat (Report) X user for (Verbal Abuse)

While not using offensive language in a game you are still harassing the chat making another persons game play get thrown off, the moment you start being abusive saying you are going to report other players you don't only make the game go worse, but you often start an argument in chat and that gets no one anywhere, and it often just causes an outrage between multiple players then including the person you threaten to report, I personally encounter this childish behavior so much especially when the people who start the harassment in chat are part of the problem from the beginning and the only ones in the game saying hateful things in team chat a lot of the times.

Filing false reports, Yeah I totally hate it, but if I have to file 5 reports on players for agreeing to trade reports against another player when they have no idea what happened on the opposing team in pre-game chat, or in game, then I will report as many as I have to, I am sure that (My report alone won't have any effect, however) if others also report them for the same thing after seeing the same thing then the automated system will do the same thing.

On the other hand the serious reports like (Threats) hard (Racism) that isn't really a joke I take screen shot and send a support ticket directly to Riot themselves I don't encounter these as much as I used to.

And another report option is griefing, when a player runs in my lane as a Tank jungler, throws the lane off, and then tells me in chat (I will do whatever I want) then I know the behavior is simply just griefing to throw off the game not just some unskilled player.

not useless. after 1000 reports pile up they will get a 10 game chat restriction

If someones being abusive and is threatening to report then that's considered toxic by both Riot and the community and is deserving of a report. Riot considers report begging or threatening reports to be toxic and will punish for those actions so Ada is correct in the sense that if someones threatening a report or is saying they'll report you and you've done nothing wrong.

The golden rule of thumb is never tell someone you're reporting them or ask for reports since all you do is guarantee one in return. Which if you've been toxic might get you punished as well. Better to simply mute, report and move on and let Riot deal with it. The punishments are coming down either instantly or within games of the action now.

As Ada said take a screenshot and submit that to Riot if they've crossed the line into threats etc.
