AFK vs Toxic players

I dont understand why toxic players get more of a penalty than those who go afk in ranked games or normal games. I have another account and I have been trying to rank up in it but because of afk players, in 2 games in a row for my promotionals, I have lost but if there is a toxic player on the team all I have to do is mute them and there is no more problem afterwards. I get that people get offended by insults or go on tilt because of it but all you have to do is mute them, but what could I do with afk players? They get reported but toxic players get more of a penalty than afk players which should be the other way around; just like in any sport there are going to be people who talk crap about teammates or just on the rival team to rile them up, but you cant just up and leave in a sport, but in a league game you can just leave and not be penalized as harshly as people who are toxic. Please fix this riot its just not fun at all.

I "guess" that it's 'cause an AFK could be, like a power outage or something not voluntary. but toxicity is "intentional"

I don't really think, if that is their reasoning, that that really is a valid reason. IMO toxicity can be unintentional, ie. people sometimes are "toxic" when they are on tilt, it's natural, and sometimes when people are super focused they forget about the PC fluff when chatting, someone could say "Ashe your farm is bad" and not mean it rudely, but because they are typing fast and not thinking about it too much they forgot that it sounds rude. and like, some people have learning differences that makes it more likely they "sound rude" when they don't mean to.

and, if someone JUST had a bad game, and then someone is blunt in chat for efficiency sake, they're more likely to be offended and then lash back or something. I don't think that toxicity is necessarily "bad" so much as it is "desired to be discouraged"

People get banned all the time for AFKing. I read at least 1 QQ post about it every other day.

It is much easier to scan a chat log and flag inappropriate content than to figure out if someone is intentionally DCing or their ISP crapped out.

Do you have any proof of this?

From looking at the websites:

Name Calling/Flaming gets you Chat Restriction for an increasing number of games until you are suspended and then banned if you don't reform.

AFKing you are warned and then suspended if it continues and finally banned.

Riot has stated that they are working on AFK detection systems and are going to role out some updates next season. I think the only reason it seems like Chat is punished harder is because they have the system out and working already for Chat problems and AFK's are still in development.
