Cannot log in to LoL Client at all

Well this new update has just ruined my login in, when I'm in the log in screen all i get when I've put in my correct password is a never ending login screen trying to login in, after a while of trying to log in (several minutes) it will throw a popup saying 'Unknown Error, An unknown error has occurred, Sorry about that. We've sent a report to the server. If you continue encountering this error you may want to check the support site or forum for more information.' (this popup actually is two identical ones layered on top as well) and this has happened multiple times trying by relaunching LoL. I can't find another discussion with this and it has never happened before and previously being in the EU and playing on the NA server has not given any major issues except obvious lag but I now cannot play the game at all, help!
