Who would you recommend

Who is the best champ for top lane. I have 5800IP and looking to buy a great top lane champ. The ones i am looking at now are Irelia, Lee Sin, and Lulu. Open to suggestions.

From the choices you listed, 2) Lee Sin and 4) Riven are super fun to learn/use. Lee is the more versatile of the two, both are about equal difficulty to master.

In the future if you want other recommendations, these are some fun champions I'd recommend:

AP Melee Rumble Poppy

Ranged AP Lissandra Swain

Ranged AD Quinn Jayce

Swain can be strong, but very institutional. Lulu is getting some focus from riot, will likely be nerfed soon.

And that irelia nerf...should be here any season now.....aaannnyyy season

the irelia nerf thing is a running joke; she can be very strong, but its more about her negative (unfun for the other player) playstyle.

Fiora is really fun, and can be a great top laner. The trick, is that she has NO escapes. You get caught out on a gank? you 1v2 for the win or die.

Even though I have a boner for Rumble I still think really enjoy playing Vlad top. He can win most trades in lane just because of the the heal on his q, and his e makes him very slippery. Similar to Rumble he gets underestimated just because he isn't seen as often on SR, so you can easily use this to your advantage to pick up an early kill. His ult can really help in teamfights, especially in team comps built around AP. The only problem that I have with Vlad is that his damage can be really lack luster if you did bad early game, and he doesn't tend to have the best mid game; however because of his passive his late game can be really strong. Vlad also has some really cool skins IMO.

Vlad is VERY strong, but (awkwardly enough) only against the main stream bruiser top lanes. Ranged and HEAVY tanks tend to beat him. He wins lane via power farming with his Tides (E) and using the healing buff stacks to max his q for sustain. By out sustaining, and aggressively harassing the lane opponent, champions like jax and renekton have a nightmare match up.

GREAT and surviving tower dives, and good team fighting later.

Of the 3, Lulu and Irelia are safe picks. Those 2 work relatively well in numerous situations. Think of Swain as an offensive version of Maokai; instead of sticking to the team for %DR you go into the enemy team to cause mass DoTs and lockdown. Swain is good vs very weak laners like Mundo.

Rumble is great for teamfights and a well positioned ult can turn a fight around.

Rumble is by no means weak 1v1 though, if you manage his resource well and overheat at the right moment in melee he can wreck the tankiness of champions in seconds.

IMO Rumble is a strong champ in most situations, mostly because people tend to underestimate him. He can thrive in lane if you know how to use his kit, and also bring a lot to the table in teamfights. Not to mention he has a sick skin.

Mundo is literally my main, and a ton of fun.

The real trick, is that until level 4, you avoid fights and last hit minions with cleavers. My level order is: Q/E/Q/W/Q/R/Q/Q/E....

He can farm really well with just Q and, using W only to push hard, usually while the enemy laner is gone. If you can just ahrass and not get to far behind, you can greatly out sustain nearly anyone - allowing you to catch up while they back. Further, I like Teleport, as it lowers your down time even more.

Build, with almost no exceptions, is rushing Visage, then boots, then Warmog, then upgrade boots, then a second warmog, and then an atmas. You become a split push god who tank entire teams at this point - and with so much health, even ignited, your ult powers through most of it.

Finally: at 3 points on cleaver you can start fighting people, (so level 5) and then backing off and letting your passive keep you in lane while you cleaver farm.

I played a lot of Mundo in the past. I like him as a character but I wouldn't describe his pattern as 'fun'. I like meaningful interactions and Mundo doesn't offer very much of that.

Often, the way I have fun (or relax) is by playing very non standard champions. Mundo, Teemo, Singed, Sion are my mains, mostly, because they get so little love, so its fun for me to make them competitive. That being said, it's not for everyone, I admit.

Versatile + Fun = Lee or Wu

Both can go damage or a tankier spec. Wu doesn't have as many intricacies as Lee but has a lot more invisible power (Q shreds for a lot, passive gives you a lot of resists, you can make Decoy 'turn' with an alt+rightclick). Wu is easier to pick up and start doing well with. Lee will take time but is one of the most fulfilling champs when played right.

Fun, versatile and safe is pretty hard.

LeBlanc is probably best fit for that as far as a common pick goes I suppose. Oddball picks that I think fit that category would probably be Janna and AP Ez. Galio and Malzahar pretty strong vs Mages but not as versatile or safe. If you're really adventurous, Katarina is super fun.

I do like LeBlanc, she's so hard to play from behind/late game though...

I'm playing Orianna currently, and am looking towards Syndra and Ahri for the future

My personal opinion? MUNDO. MUNDO MUNDO MUNDO.

That said, many do not agree with me, preferring irelia, Jax, and the like.

Now, my opinion again: Vlad is very strong, renek and Riven can do very well, depending on the match up; nearly any tank can do well, be again - depends on match up.

There really isn't a "best" top laner, it kind of depends on your playstyle and preference. In my honest opinion Irelia is pretty strong at the moment with Jax being nerfed and she has great sustain waveclear and dueling power.
