Does anyone have any suggestions for being a better (mage) support in this meta?

Depending on who you're using, it cane be a little different. But what should apply to every support player is to always ward, and switch between playing aggressively or passively depending on who you're playing. For me, I play a lot of mage supports who should play aggressively, like Sona and Lux (yes I use both Lux support and mid). Buildwise, I think it depends on who you're playing. Whenever I play Sona, I always make Eye of the Watchers as part of my build and build her kinda tanky. Usually my builds end up somewhat like this: item 3504 item 3222 item 3158 item 2301 as core items (I try to build them as often as I can) and picking between item 3040 item 3060 item 3174 item 3100 depending on how the game is going. Archangel's Staff/Seraph's Embrace is a little rare, since I don't have mana problems later in the game. But I do recommend building it on Anivia if you play her support (and maybe mid? I'm not sure). With Lux I start early game with these: item 3303 item 2009 and then I start to change her to a full AP build like item 3165 item 3285 item 3158 or item 3020 item 3157 item 3092 . (I change Frost Queen's to something else if I play her mid, but we're talking support right now.) Also, I almost always forget to upgrade this guy: item 3340 but if you do plan on upgrading it, you can choose whatever is to your liking. Also item 3027 is really good for some supports like Annie.

As for masteries, I guess it depends on you. For Sona I use Windspeaker's Blessing, Thunderlord's Decree on Lux, and I think also on Annie. I hope showing my builds helped a little, I find it useful if someone shows someone else how to do something. if you have any other questions, feel free to ask, and maybe someone else can provide their input.
