What happened to the Rage Gene through the ages?

so, Gnar has his rage gene passive which changes him into MEGA Gnar . this is a gene that existed back in his time, but not in any of the yordles that exist today. It's not a mutation that would have just vanished out of the yordle DNA with no trace and if anything would likely end up refining it's self over the years to possibly allow changing on command. My question is what happened to this gene since Gnar's time? Did it devolve out of yordles due to lack of uses, or does every yordle secretly harbor the ability to change into a ferocious giant monster?

None of the above? It's possible (I believe a Rioter even mentioned it in the Q&A for him) that Gnar was the only one that had the ability to change like that - and therefore the Rage Gene. Having been frozen, he would have been unable to pass on the mutation. So it would be - at this point - unique to him.

I see the rage gene all the time in every game, forum post, youtube comment, or facebook reply when Teemo is mentioned or seen. Clearly his works in reverse.

Do you actually play this game? The rage gene is in every yordle (and human and void creature and animal etc.)
