I was under the impression that you got the rewards for whatever your highest earned rank was, so I hit gold, had a kid, had to move, had to take a new job. Life stuff.
Five months later I'm like "man I miss me some lol and would like to come back and play some more." log in, new season is started, dont have my gold rewards.
Not really interested coming back now. :S
rewards have always been based on where you stand at the time of rewarding (end of the season) Otherwise the decay would have been pointless. The idea is to make you maintain your standing, actively. Otherwise people could just place high with some lucky placements at the beginning and never play ranked again.
EDIT: Of course, now they can do that. Decay has been removed for all leagues below platinum. Bronze, Silver, and Gold are now safe from decay.
You could've, and probably did decay back into silver.
