Honor ribbons

I have been playing League for almost two years. Sounds dumb but I was really happy when I got my red ribbon well over a year ago. Then it became green, yellow, and finally blue. I was ecstatic. But after like four days the blue ribbon was taken from me. I don't get it. It's been over a year since I've had a ribbon at all. A Rioter told me that it's easier to get your ribbon back than starting from scratch and that they can't give me details on how the system works, which is totally understandable. What I don't understand is how I can have 307/151/484/321 honor and get at least one honor almost every game and not have it back. I've never been warned for having negative behavior, let alone being banned from anything. What's the deal?
