I thought the point of preseason now was that you won't de-rank or lose your LP in ranked? just setting you up for seeding come Jan/Feb?

Please do not listen to their ignorance. League is not doing a hard reset, nor will they ever do a hard reset. It will always be a soft reset

no there is no point of ranked in preseason they are going to hard reset our ranks and no matter what you get in ranked now it doesnt matter because you cnt get rewards

Its a soft reset meaning ppl will be closer to 1200 elo but the higher u get in preseason the higher you will be placed after provisional in season 5. So yes there is a point. And yes you can lose LP if u lose games

Wow. Well, that is definitely not what I wanted to hear/read. I thought it was just going put us in the ballpark range for provisionals when they start. Ranked is just the worst time, every game is screwed over. Somebody feeds excessively, the adc's can't adc, or a troll just walks around the map and doesn't contribute which is what I had last night and it just drove me crazy. I don't even think I am going to play ranked during preseason just so I don't fall to damn bronze 5 by the time season 5 starts. I've won 8 ranked games and started at Silver 2 and now am 1 loss from going to Silver 5. This is extremely frustrating.

This suggests very strongly that you were placed too high. The 10 games that are used to place you in a division are some really random games. You're generally placed with other players who are in their placements; these players might be Plat-Diamond-Masters using a new account, or they might be people who are totally unprepared for ranked and will never play it again after seeing how hard they lose. It is not uncommon for someone who belongs in Bronze to accidentally win the majority of their placement matches and then nose-dive shortly afterward as they're not able to compete at that level.

I can't guarantee that you belong in Bronze, but would bet money on it. Yes, you will encounter players at that MMR who "can't adc", or "feed excessively" or "just walk around the map and don't contribute", but you're losing to those players as well. You've lost 14 of your last 15 ranked games. That is a definite sign that the problem lies with you, not your random players you get as teammates. If Silver 2 was a fair assessment of your abilities, you might have had a short unlucky streak of losses but you would turn it around as you start encountering worse and worse players.

Sometimes, someone will come on the boards and ask when is the right time to start playing ranked. While there are popular answers regarding how many rune pages you have, how many champions you can play well, and how many Normals you've played, my answer has always been "Ranked play is for finding out how good you are compared to other competitive players. Start playing ranked as soon as you're ready to accept being told how you stack up." It sounds to me like you are not ready to be told that you're Bronze. You did have the good fortune of ending the season in Silver, so you'll have that border, but your recent history suggests that you will not be placed into Silver next season unless you improve. There is a Tips & Tricks board if you're open to advice. People can give you champion-specific advice, general game advice, attitude advice, whatever you're looking for. And I spectate viewers on my stream to give advice. Rest assured, it is not the end of the world if you do fall to Bronze or even to the bottom of Bronze; it is just a natural consequence of not knowing enough about the game yet, and getting better is something you can start doing right now.

5 vs. 5 teams, my team loses or wins as a team. I can assure you that 14 of my 15 ranked game losses are not solely because of my play. I've had a couple of adc players, from start to finish, go straight down mid and into opponents base and feed. How is that fair to anybody in the entire game? That cheats the opponents of a fair, worthwhile win, and makes the 20 minute match for my teammates very miserable.

I'd like to ask you to reflect on what is meant by the phrase "solely because of my play."

Let's say you and I are a team in a bowling tournament. Our opponents get a combined score of 400. I get 300 points (the maximum possible score), and you bowl a 50. We lost the round solely because of you, agreed? I got the maximum possible score; I couldn't have done any better.

Next round, our opponents get a combined 400, you bowl a 50, I bowl a 200. In a manner of speaking, we lost solely because of you. No matter how much better I did, we couldn't have won because of your score. If you did better, we could have won; if I did better, we couldn't have won. Therefore, solely your fault.

Next round, our opponents score 400, you bowl a 50, I bowl a 70. We both lost really hard. Neither one of us could have possibly won by individually doing better.

Last round, our opponents score 400, you bowl a 140, I bowl a 240. We lost by 20 points. Solely your fault? Not this time. Either one of us had the potential to score an extra 20+ points. I can't say the loss is solely because of your score. The loss is my fault as well. If I am a poor sport, I might say it's not fair that I did well and lost.

It's important to recognize that if it was possible for you to do better—better enough to get a win despite your teammates' performances—the loss is because of you... in a manner of speaking. In such a case, you're not allowed to say "I could have done better and won the game, but nahhhhh the loss isn't because of me." And let's be real: League is complex enough that you could always do better. If you've ever watched tool-assisted speedruns, you understand that even in relatively simple games, your mastery and reflexes as a human still don't come close to perfection. No one in their right mind plays a video game and says "I'm so good that there is no possible way for this game to be played better than I'm playing it." In League, if you were to play perfectly beyond the limits of humans, there is basically no way you can lose regardless of how your team does.

This shoots down that Round 1 and Round 2 that I described. If the number of points I can score is infinite, then it's never solely your fault. If I could cause us to win by doing better, but I don't, I've caused us to lose.

Now, it sure is not fair that some matches you can play just fine—or even really well—and still lose. Each individual game has the potential to be unfair. But you cannot say that unfair games that result in losses were all your team's fault, because you must know that there's more you could have done if you just had more knowledge and practice. (And clearly, these 14 losses couldn't have all been unfair games skewed towards the enemy team anyway. Not unless you accept that you are the common factor in those games, and the most likely reason for the imbalanced teams.)

Blaming your team for the reasons you said means you have the "scrub mentality". It takes people a long time to admit it's their fault their not winning.

When I did my placements I was silver 1, I won the first 5 games and started playing against high gold and a couple plats. I know I'm not at that level and it showed, ended in S1 again and it's seems about right.

Yes. I completely forgot that when the morgana support goes and starts taking our jungle, from our jungler, effectively putting 3 of our team members at an extreme disadvantage, that means I belong on bronze. Thanks for the pro-tip!

You can still lose/gain LP in the pre-season. Nothing has changed there. Only inactivity decay has been disabled for all ranks. Then the 2015 season starts (next year) and you will get the soft reset and start seeding into the new season (based off previous stats)
