Can someone explain the beginning of the new season and how it affects my rank?

I haven't played ranked since around Dec 10th, and I'm in Silver II with zero LP. Since the new season started does that I mean I won't get dropped down after 28 days, because I have to play the 10 provisional matches again or no?

I'm gonna be in Europe until late January so it's hard to play LoL on NA servers.

Basically what I'm asking is is my ranked standing frozen for now until I play provisional matches for S4 or can I still get dropped after 28 days?
