Riot, have you ever considered making a "daily's" feature?

ThaDilDOZER··27 votes·6,752 views

I'm not sure if this is the right board for this, but hey; it is a miscellaneous suggestion. I read all the time that summoners are frustrated with the rate at which people earn IP. I understand that decisions are made in a way that you probably want to sell more IP boosts rather then just giving away free IP, but what if you gave the chance for players to earn extra amounts of ip instead? Hearthstone (and probably many other games) have daily quests that allow for improved in game currency gain. I really enjoy the first win of the day bonus, and it is a pretty hefty bonus, but it only lasts for one win. In some cases, players will get on and play until they obtain their first win, then promptly get off because they feel the ip gain isnt worth the effort put into 1~ hour games. This system does reward players for coming back, but it does not reward players for staying on. So I ask, why not offer a feature that rewards people for consistent play throughout the day? It could be general things like " get 5 kills" or "get 5 assists" and these could offer small ip bonuses. I feel a system like this would reward players for returning every day to play, but also give them a reason to play longer each day. I think a system like this could also open up a way to really reward players for good in game behavior such as "go 5 days without being reported" or in game quests that promote teamwork like " participate in 5 dragon fights." I understand that these systems could be cataclysmic to implement given how archaic alot of the League code is, but it may be something worth looking into.

TL;DR Riot please offer some more chances to get IP ty

I like the concept of "achievements" for league, things that could offer small IP bonuses, or maybe even special icons for doing some of the achievements.

That being said, anything that involves enticing people to play differently than just wanting to win, should not be allowed. "Hit 5 Ashe Ultimate arrows at a range of 2000 or more." would cause every Ashe to play differently at first to get that achievement and could lead to losing a game.

Achievements I would enjoy seeing: (numbers may vary obviously)

  • Win 5,10,50,100 games with (insert champion).
  • Play as (insert champion) 5,10,50,100 times.
  • Win 10,50,100,500,1000 games on (insert game mode).
  • Play 5,10,50,100 games with at least 1 friend.
  • Obtain a win streak of 3,5,10,15. (debatable... could lead to purposeful feeding to make the streak easier to obtain.)

Daily Quests:

  • Win a game with (insert champion).
  • Win a game on (insert game mode).
  • Play a game with a friend.

Stuff like this, for me, would encourage me to play nonstop until I completed them all. Possibly at each small interval, reward 50-500 IP depending on the difficulty, then possibly an Icon at the highest tier. Great way for people to get icons for their favorite champ and show it off.

My opinion, thoughts?

Omnipherious2 votes

I think Heroes of the Storm has a good daily quest system that could work very well with Team Builder. You can have quests like, "Play a game as a Tank + 100 IP", "Win a game as an Assassin +150 IP"; this is probably better than making quests champion specific since it'll be easier for everyone to complete even if they were limited only to the free-week selections.

Ryster2 votes

That would work as well, I was thinking more achievements rather than daily quests. Only problem with "Playing a game as a Tank" in team builder is does my mid Annie tank count? Like you can go somewhere and be some role you aren't. Like the icons for example, people were just choosing a role but going elsewhere as long as their team was ok with it.

Either way, something like this could be cool, either another daily/weekly bonus amount of IP, or lifetime based achievements for small bonuses are you progress.

Omnipherious1 votes

Well, if you want to prevent oddball picks you can always have the completion trigger be based off champion tags. So a quest like "Play a game as a Tank" will only be completed if you played a game as a champion that has the tank tag as their primary or secondary role regardless of whatever position you picked in Team Builder.

Ryster1 votes

I was thinking the same thing, could be another possibility. There are probably more possible quests, it is just up to Riot if they want to implement them or not. And what, if any, should be the rewards.

Even if we just had achievements with no rewards, similar to the rankings for Wins, Kills, and Minions in normal games, I would enjoy that so I could go through and see what all I have accomplished and what else I could do.

Iron Spatula4 votes

After reading a lot of the negative comments to this post it hit me.

This may not have been a viable idea if you joined the game in season 2.

BUT league has just about DOUBLED its number of champions from s2. Implementing this system now would allow players joining now to get all of the game material in the same amount of time as it would have if they joined without this system in s2.

Think about the state of the game in 2 years. League has, let's say, 300 champions. As a newbie it would be extremely discouraging to see these champions played, knowing that you'll NEVER be able to get all the ones you want. So people just quit (a minor problem even now).

As RIOT keeps creating more and more champions people are going to feel less and less that they are able to get them all. This being said, league needs something else to keep people interested. I think achievements and dailies will give new players a sense of accomplishment as well as diminish the massive burden low levels have when trying to decide what champion to buy next.

RiotRiot Baconhawk10 votes

This is really interesting. I've personally discussed this a good bit and would love to hear your ideas!

Angry Monster2 votes

We already have 150 free on first win. So why would riot even consider giving more since its the way to unlock therefore the the incentive to play. People that think that everything should just be unlocked with no work should use their RP.

Any bonus IP giveaway would be a slap in the face of every long time member. I am finally 1 champ away from owning them all. I own 20 rune pages and almost every t3(those worth a damn) rune. Why should new players be gifted shit? I have been playing since season 2. it supposed to take time

Wullf7 votes

I beleive that you got it all wrong.

No one is disputing your effort or depriciate your achievements. But the game is meant to be played for enjoyment not for afterwards boasting "i got them all". I play since before S2 (at least I think) and I do not have all champs or runes, because I do not need them. I play because I enjoy it. (partialy :D)

Personally I am not sure how this achivements/daily quests or whatever would affect the game. But as I see it now i might be harmless.

Angry Monster2 votes

I completely disagree. Part of the reason IP exists is to force us to grind and learn. We are giving almost nothing in this game for free. We have to work our accounts to viability or if your lazy you can pay riot to make it easier. If everything was easily unlocked a lot of players would of stopped along time ago. Besides the grind what other incentive is their to play? The more casual players are not considered about ranked.

The only reason people want more LP is that they want to unlock stuff. They want to unlock stuff to collect everything. People like the OP are suffering from the lack of instant gratification that LP does not currently provide. but the real question is should instant gratification be a factor in a game of "MASTERY". If they want to quickly unlock things they should just pend money.

played for enjoyment not for afterwards boasting "i got them all".

I completely disagree with this statement. The OP is looking for faster on the for free aspect of the game.

Wullf4 votes

I try to belive that I am a man of reason. And you spoke reasonably. Therefore I acknowledge by mistake. I did not realise that someone would stop playing just because he "got them all".

It did not accur to me that there might be other resons to play except of enjoyment and urge to get better.

Although I am not completely against this idea I can now see where you are pointing and that it might go very wrong.

Angry Monster2 votes

I am not trying to say every causal will leave, But that their is a devil here that needs to be accounted for. Not everyone is going to quit, but that some would cause they did it all. These players are not here for the mastery or to get better. They are here to achieve X goal.

Since you are reasonable, and i can not see the other side, why should riot give more IP? My case is that right now a casual player can earn about 6300 a month.(give or take 1k LP)That is either a new champ or a full set of t3 runes. (full set is 9, not a full page). Riot does not charge monthly fees and is completely dependent on the players buying RP.

Some of the things that RP can get you is LP boosts, rune pages and champs. You obviously can not get LP boosts with LP. But the rest is completely available with no cost. If people want to do it fast, should people do it at cost? What reason should riot make LP gains higher and cut into their own profits?

Wullf1 votes

I agree with you if you look at it from this point of view.

I was thinking more from the perspective of enjoyment. To give players something to focus on in the meantime of grinding/exping/mastering etc.

Though I am not defening myself I am just explaining what I ment originally.

If anything is to change it should happen with extreme caution.

Angry Monster1 votes

I am not trying to hammer home my point of view. I was seriously asking for a rational of the other side. Most people so far are being wild in their claims. I was hoping you could explain their side in a meaningful way, when those questions are brought up. For the life of me i do not understand the give me free stuff at no cost attitude.

I have enjoyed all your responses.

Ryster4 votes

I think the OP has a good reason as to why:

I really enjoy the first win of the day bonus, and it is a pretty hefty bonus, but it only lasts for one win. In some cases, players will get on and play until they obtain their first win, then promptly get off because they feel the ip gain isnt worth the effort put into 1~ hour games.

The current first win of the day only promotes playing once a day and not continuous play. Whereas something like this, gives another reason to keep playing other than having fun. They begin to feel the game is just a grind and accept it by only playing 1 game a day.

I understand for you, this is a meaningless way to get more IP since you have all you want basically, but go play on a level 1 Smurf. Tell me how long it takes to get ~5 rune pages filled with runes and ~30 champs to play. It takes a while, and for a new player, sometimes you just really want that 6300 champ, but that takes forever to get and by the time you get it, another champ comes for you to choose from.

It doesn't need to be much, but an extra free 100 IP a day for "Winning 3 games on Twisted Treeline." is a good way to promote play and let those who need the IP to be happy. It doesn't affect those who already have endless IP anyways, so it can't hurt.

Wullf2 votes

I read again the OP's post and also comments.

It seems that OP is really trying to get some free stuff. I think that IP rate is just. Though I speak as a man that plays for fun and then is surprized that he has a several thousands of IP in his account.

If you are looking for meaningful way of explanation I fear I can offer none. Except what I aleready said.

To give players something to focus on in the meantime of grinding/exping/mastering etc.

One daily reward I can image work quite well: Giving player one game boost for 5 (or any other number) games played in one day.

That way you still have to earn the reward instead of getting it for free. It also pushies players to play more and why would not Riot want to players to play more? win-win situation.

Though it is just an idea found in the heat of the moment of writing this comment.

Angry Monster1 votes

if you want to replace the WOTD for something else, Their is plenty of room to talk. But i would be against any in game achievement since it would encourage people to do X instead of completing the game.

I personally like WOTD cause it allows you to pick your poison. I am not told what mode to play. It is my choice. Others may prefer a different system.

Some people are saying riot needs to give more to succeed in addition to WOTD and current IP gain rates. I think that they are being greedy. I was accused in this thread of being to thoughtful and CNN like. Its to bad that people prefer emotion over reason.

Thxs for being a person that wanted to talk.

Wullf1 votes

Well, I can imagine that smurfing must be a pain in the ass. Anyway You are welcome

(btw what is CNN like behaviour?)

Angry Monster1 votes

Talking numbers, reasons and fact i guess.

Worgslarg5 votes

The game is supposed to be about player skill to progress, not time spent playing.

The player who joined in march but is far better than the player who's been playing since season 1 deserves the higher ranking.

Angry Monster1 votes

When did riot say it was about skill to unlock things? I am pretty sure never.

If you are talking about ranked sure its skill to progress. But what skill have you shown being silver? At best you have shown that you are average. You have no real skill to speak of. The only really skilled players are the Diamonds. 80%+ of the community is not even close to being consider skilled at this game.

The player who joined in march but is far better than the player who's been playing since season 1 deserves the higher ranking.

this is true. And they can show their skills in ranked. A true diamond will get through ranked even with sub optimal runes. Though i would argue that no one could have the need of every champ unlocked or more than 5 rune pages if they been playing less than a year. Their is no way to have that level of mastery of league without being a smurf.

Since you jumped in answer my questions and prove that the IP gains are to small. Players can easily earn with WOTD earn 250+ IP right now.(roughly 1 win) in 25 days that is roughly 6300 IP. How much IP do players need to be able to generate?

I argue that the skilled players will rise to the top no matter what. That the IP limit has nothing to do with it. Even if the IP limit is clamping a minority( a very small minority) they could buy their way out of the clamp with RP. The system is designed to make players work or pay. Why are you asking for a 3rd road when you do not pay a monthly fee?

Worgslarg5 votes

If i'm in silver 5, that's where I belong, and pulling the rank card is a dick move.

But limiting IP so that only players who have been playing years have many champions and rune pages to go with them is just illogical.

You're also assuming that every player has the time to play the 2-3 games a day required to get first win of the day, every day.

I am protesting the illogical gating of player power by runes, which are already gated by player level like masterys, but unlike masterys, require immense amounts of ip.

Angry Monster1 votes

You were the one talking about skill. The only skill measurement we have is ranked. Either skill is open for debate or not. Notice how i said Diamonds are the only truly skilled players? You look at my profile and you will see that i am not even plat. If you have a problem with labels do not talk about "SKILL"

I can promise myself WOTD every day in under 20 minutes with a dominion bot game . The tools are their if you are willing to use them.

You really can protest all you want. The fact that pro players have been penalized in LCS and forced to play without runes and win, disproves your argument. You can win with sub optimal runes or even no runes. Is it easy? No. then plan ahead or spend cash. You have 2 legit choices here.

Grind or pay. Why do players deserve an option that will make it so they do not need to pay? Why should you get a fast track without paying a cost? I took the grind path myself but it was the choice i made. I could of used RP to get further ahead but i wanted to look pretty instead. I made that choice.

AGAIN WHY?

Worgslarg7 votes

Because league isnt an mmorpg.

Grinding doesn't belong in league, so why is it here.

Angry Monster1 votes

You can not be serious here. Alot of games are not MMOS and have grinding in them. Grinding is not exclusive to one type of game.

Grinding is also the process of doing the same thing over again. You know like last hitting, trades, take objectives, ward and map movements. All the thing that take practice to get skilled at.

I would say grinding should be in league. You do not magically get skilled in league.

Worgslarg2 votes

Getting better at something takes time, I'm not disputing that.

However, grinding for no good reason simply hurts a game. You don't get free aram rerolls because then everyone would reroll forever. That's a good reason for grinding.

Grinding for ip simply hurts the game imo. There is little/no endgame that makes it worthwhile.

MaknBacnPancakes1 votes

The IP is the means to procure goodies..it is up to Riot to produce more and quality goodies to strive for.

I have faith 😃👍

Angry Monster1 votes

You say grind and i disagree. It is practice.

Rew7112 votes

I'm going to say this one thing. He does have a good point. Most people don't want to have their day taken up by playing a free game when they might have school, jobs, homework, etc. It's hard for me to find any time in the summer to even play.

MaknBacnPancakes1 votes

I call this the Old Guard Syndrome..

And the game now, as it exists, yes, I see your point and agree.

However if Riot were to implement other things.. A general, out of game and profile quality of life update.. I'm talking Special/more summoner icons, champion specific icons, champion specific background pictures, etc... Then there would be MORE to use RP/IP on and that is what I believe the heart of this conversation should be... Let's add MORE!!! Not.. Gimme gimme gimme for free!

Angry Monster1 votes

I call you guys whinny little 3 year-olds. Who want everything for free and does not want to pay for it.

I have quite a few friends that do not have everything. I am just now hitting the got everything mark. Not once during my time did i say man riot needs to increase the LP gains. Or that riot should give me something for free.

No this conversation has been totally about more for free. You guys want more LP at the cost of RP sales. If people get more IP for free they will be less likely to purchase RP. this i from 2 principles called "Cause and Effect" and "Supply and Demand". Not one person has come up with why the current gains are bad, especially with the slow release of champs. Or why if they ar ein a rush they should not be spending cash.

Iron Spatula1 votes

I've been playing since s2 as well. I think you need to look at the issue from a different perspective. Two years ago, would you rather achievements be added? Of course!

From Riot's standpoint: Achievements only give a limited amount of ip permanently...the same thing as playing the game so why not. And dailies mean that players play for a longer duration each day, and therefore have more exposure to the game and its components. Its gives them a reason they HAVE to play, increasing the chance they will play for a longer time overall rather than quit, and more exposure means seeing more champions played, ultimately leading to more people buying rp to get said champions.

Back to your perspective: 100 games with a champion IS A LOT. You probably won't be level 30 if you just started playing at level 1, since you never only play just one champ. I think 3150ip is a fair total for all ranks 5/10/25/50/100 (whatever the numbers are). This being said 100 games is around 80-90 hours, around 4 days of playing time....and you only get a 3150 champion. So now instead of having EVERYTHING in two and a half years... you get everything in 2.25 years. Not a massive difference but it will reward players for sticking with LoL and make them want to do so.

This idea should SERIOUSLY be considered. (By that I mean GIVE US ACHIEVEMENTS AND DAILIES RIOT!)

Angry Monster2 votes

achievements no thxs. You can leave them like hats in other games.

also with 25 ish games(1 a day) you get aproxmently 6300 ip earned. What with only a 3200 only.

I am sry but you guys want to weaken the game. Every-time a developer makes things easier the game goes down hill.

Cardbox frog2 votes

I think this is a double-edged sword. It could be great or it could be catastrophic.

You see, League already has "win of the day" to encourage players to log in on regular basis, so the only reason you could have to include Daily rewards would be to encourage certain ways to play the game or to keep on playing.

On the one hand, it could encourage bad behavior. To provide an example, if one daily goal was "ward 25 bushes", some player may neglect their build to buy more wards and be able to complete their daily quota, even if that means not getting a Guardian Angel and potentially throwing the game.

In other words, very specific goals should be avoided because they are likely to promote suboptimal selfish plays.

On the other hand, this could be great for the most neglected parts of the game, things like "win 2 dominion matches" or "win 3 games using a tank jungler on team-builder" could help improve the diversity of League.

It could also be a god-sent to encourage good behavior ("You can't claim your daily rewards if you queue-dodged today.") and even prize it ("play 10 games without getting reported").

And last but not least, having different goals besides "play 1 game today" would encourage people to play different matches just to get the IP. To avoid overlapping with the "win of the day", a weekly challenge would make more sense though.

Angry Monster1 votes

Still why should riot have to incentives you? No one is addressing this question. Why should riot give you more?

MaknBacnPancakes1 votes

I like it! We have the mini-quests.. -Catch me if you can (Jinx vs Caitlyn or Vi) -Claim to the throne: get a kill on Ashe/Sejuani/Lissandra as Ashe/Sejuani/Lissandra.

Yet nothing comes of it?! Give us more!!!

Angry Monster2 votes

those are not sources of LP. So i think they are out of context.

MaknBacnPancakes1 votes

IP/RP/ whatever.. I enjoy them and we should get more

Angry Monster2 votes

Man so much wrong within one statement.

Lets start with why you think you should get more. Just saying i want is not a reason.

To get more of something at current costs lowers the inherit value per unit. Riot does not just throw numbers up for fun their are reason for them. Saying I want more is not a reason for the company to change values. Customers always want more. You need a reason for getting more.

MaknBacnPancakes1 votes

The funny thing is man.. You are missing my point entirely because you won't stop flapping on like a CNN business analyst...

The main point I am trying to make.. Is if Riot really digs in and explodes with hundreds of skins, icons, backgrounds, boarders, tags, you know.. Adds OUT OF GAME quality of life elements to the game, it gives people more reason to get IP/RP.
By your logic, all things stay the same, and any player that plays longer than 3 seasons faithfully already has EVERYTHING.. So where is their IP/RP going? Runes done, skins done, champs done! Now I have 560000000 IP and NOTHING to do with it. So in essence, those players (the loyal and faithful 4 year player) would cause the plague in the game, not average, weekend warrior Joe who throws money on any skin that shows cleveage?

NO GAME, NO GENRE, NO COMPANY can remain the same and expect longevity. And if everyone, player and company benefit.. Let it roll!

I am reading your posts and it appears you like arguing for the sake of arguing, and you will post a rebuttal about how stupid it is to want MORE out of something you like... How wanting the experience to enrich and continue is wrong, and how the current model is okay!

Angry Monster1 votes

I am being serious and logical. You want to live in fantasy world. Sorta done with you.

The game already changes every year. You act like no major patch comes and changes everything around Christmas.

This game is not at a stand still. I wish you could hold a meaningful talk with you. But all you say is I want, I feel. Those are meaningless terms.

Eiko Carol1 votes

I would love to see a first win of the day for each game mode, it would promote people playing the less-played game modes more often and give them a bonus for playing it.

Angry Monster1 votes

Still why should riot have to incentives you? No one is addressing this question. Why should riot give you more?

MaknBacnPancakes1 votes

Why? Because humans are an incentive based animal and sometimes need that light or carrot to prod them on..

Also.. Why not? League of Legends is a combination of things that I love wrapped into one.. Strategy, fun, competition, personal learning and challenge.. However I feel that it is all wrapped in a lifeless husk... The match reviewer is a step in the right direction, but there is still way more ground Riot can cover.

We as humans and gamers always look to improve, to get better. Riot as humans and gaming company should be doing the same.

Angry Monster1 votes

I can answer why not. Cause if they keep the current settings people will buy RP to advance. People need to spend money so the game can continue.

If you want to advance faster spend your money on the game. Or take the grind route. But do not expect riot to hurt their income so you can go faster for free.

MaknBacnPancakes1 votes

I do put money into this game. However it has nothing to do on advancement. Purely on skins I like. And what so you mean buy RP to advance? What is advancement in a MOBA? It is not pay to win, are you talking netting every champ and every skin as advancement? Every champ and every skin does not increase your skill at all..

MaknBacnPancakes2 votes

In popular fighters and FPS daily bonuses/objectives add a nice carrot at the end of the stick.. They add an element of depth and flexibility.. People are thinking small now with small IP or RP as daily bonus rewards.. But think bigger!!!

(These objectives would have to be met in a 24 hr period, after 24 hrs the new standards post)

TAB ONE- Daily Objectives/Rewards

-Daily Objective: get first blood, dragon kill, baron kill all in 1 ranked game Reward: 20 IP

-Daily Objective : kill 5 champions in ranked with Riven's Ult Reward: 5 IP

-Daily Objective: get 10 assists as Sona in a team builder game Reward: 3 IP

TAB TWO: Weekly Objectives/Rewards

-Weekly Objective: Play as Riven in ranked 25 times Reward: 50 IP

-Weekly Objective: Get first blood in 10 Ranked matches Reward: 50 IP

TAB Three: Seasonal Objectives/Rewards

(Performance based off of your top 3 champions played perhaps?) (These will be and should be very dedicated and daunting tasks)

-Seasonal Objective: Need to do X with <insert champion> Reward: special summoner icon

-Seasonal Objective: Need to do X & Y with <insert champion> Reward: a different background picture (not sure what it's called, but currently, I have a human wizard as my background where I see my profile.. Will call it a profile background picture)

-Seasonal Objective: Need to do X/Y/Z with <insert champion> Reward: skin for champion

I hope you get the gist of what I am proposing... And if it can be the carrot on a stick for other genres, why not spice up ours as well?

Thanks for reading!

I like the idea but be careful that achievements don't end up changing how people play the game.

For lack of a better metaphor; like in Call of Duty, when the game is getting close to over, everybody starts spinning around like idiots trying to get that "360 no-scope" and lose the game anyway. I don't want 40+ mins of that please.

I like the idea of consistent honor or don't get reported because it makes the same effect but in the other direction.

Caekie4 votes

the only issue i think would be that it would have to not be champion specific otherwise it may skew with play rates of certain champions and thus otherwise change gameplay. wouldn't want a katarina everygame if there was an achievement for "achieve 5 resets within 5 seconds of each other" or something.

ThaDilDOZER4 votes

I entirely agree. Champion specific quests would definitely skew the match experience a little too much, as far as mirror matches and weird anti-meta picks made just to gain ip. I still think the idea could really help riot improve new player experiences by offering in-game rewards for playing the game properly like participating in team objectives or reaching role specific goals implemented through team builder like placing wards throughout the game as the support role.
