[FAQ] Legendary Snowball - December 23rd - January 7th

Hey guys!

Just wanted to hop in and clarify that although Snowdown has officially begun, the Legendary Snowball doesn't begin until December 23rd.

Legendary Snowball runs from December 23rd - January 7th. You can grab more info about the Snowdown and all the stuff that's going on here!

TL;DR: When you buy a Legendary skin this Snowdown, you’ll unlock a free Mystery skin! If that Mystery skin happens to be a Legendary, it unlocks another Mystery skin and can continue to snowball from there. Ultimate skins also count!

A couple things to note:

  • If your Mystery gift is a legendary or an ultimate, you'll continue to snowball and receive another Mystery Gift.
  • If you gift a Legendary Snowball, the person you're sending it to will also receive the Mystery Gift.
  • If you gift someone a Legendary Snowball and their Mystery Gift is a legendary (or ultimate), they'll receive another Mystery Gift. (TL;DR, you can snowball from gifting.)
  • There is no limit as to how many skins you can snowball with! Feelin' lucky?
  • Surprise Party Fiddlesticks and Primetime Draven, while priced as 975 RP, are legendary skins and are part of the Legendary Snowball. They're permenantly discounted as a thanks to players.
  • Legacy Legendary skins listed in the Snowstorm Sale are also part of the Legendary Snowdown.
  • There's a double legendary chance for the mystery skin you get from Legendary Snowball. Normal mystery gifting doesn't have this multiplier.
  • Legendary Snowballs bypass the normal 10 available skins rule. You only need to have one eligible skin. This only applies to the Mystery Skin attached to the legendary. Mystery gifting still has the 10 item restriction.
  • You'll know if Legendary Snowball is active when you see the check box on the purchase confirmation page in the store. If you see that, there will be a Mystery Skin with your purchase!

Are Astronaut Teemo, Lion Dance Kog’Maw, and Piltover Customs Blitzcrank legendary skins with permanent discounts or did they lose their legendary status?

So when you say "If you gift a Legendary Snowball, the person you're sending it to will also receive the Mystery Gift." does that not mean that you also get the mystery skin because I gifted my brother a legendary, and I did not receive a mystery gift. Whats up? Shouldn't I be getting a mystery skin?

Yeh I have a feeling 1000's of people are going to buy legendary skins from now till the 22nd and be disappointed. Unsure why it didn't start when event started.. I got lucky and double checked Snowdown page before I bought anything, I doubt most people will check. Almost think there should be some kind of warning about that in client..

When i gift someone a mystery skin within the Legendary Snowball time frame yet they open it AFTER January 7th and it ends up being a legendary, will it still snowball because the gift was bought during the event OR will it not snowball because the event is over? Thanks!

Off Topic: The personal shop thing - Will it include skins that are going on sale this month anyway? I'm probably gonna get a Veigar skin in my personal shop, but Superb Villain Veigar will be on sale soon enough as well for 50% off... So I was wondering if this wasn't or was taken into account? Thanks! (Also can snowdown skins from past years appear in the personal shop? :O)

Wait, if I gift a person a specific legendary skin will it trigger the snowball? Or does it have to be a mystery skin that I gift? Also, are the snowdown skins from times-past legendary (ie Bad Santa Veigar and Dark Candy Fiddlesticks)?

When you say "Buy a Legendary Skin", does that include if you buy a Mystery Gift for a friend? If they randomly get a Legendary from that, does that also start the snowball? No one's made it clear if you have to buy the first Legendary Skin purposely or not.

Just some feedback/suggestion on this kind of feature, it'd be cool if...

  1. You could gift a legendary skin
  2. The person who receives the legendary skin can gift the mystery skin as a mystery chest/box/whatever it is to another player (even possibly the original gifter) and do this back and forth like a snowball fight. =b

Not sure if it would work code-wise, but it sounds like fun. : )

If I were to buy a legendary from the snowdown shop during the legendary snowball, would that still trigger the mystery skin?

@KateyKhaos how do we find out which mystery skin we unlocked? just bought myself Gatekeeper Galio but i haven't had the normal pop-up for mystery skins. thanks a lot! :)

Hi, one of my friends gifted my girlfriend a mystery gift today (December 24th). She got Firefighter Tristana, but no snowball from it. What do we do?
