Any poll that has any of the movies from the 2nd trilogy in the top 4 is not even close to being official. They rank 5,6 and 7. Don't care what order because they all sucked compared to the other 4. Empire Strikes back always has and probably always will be the best of the bunch to most people and critics. My personal favorite is Return of the Jedi.

Look, I understand the Prologue trilogy had its problems, but so did the originals. I think nostalgia has blinded some people to that fact. The thing is though, Star Wars is not popular or loved because it lacks flaws. It is loved for its beautiful and unique universe. "True Star Wars fans love all 7 movies, flaws and all." No, sorry. I won't just eat whatever the Mouse serves me. 7th movie is non-cannon in my eyes. It was very lackluster and campy imo. Could have been A LOT better. Prequels were better than this "7th" movie.

The 7th movie wasn't exactly amazing... It was basically a remade version of the 4th movie. I think it was a good movie in that it introduced likeable and developed characters, but the story was basically a copy paste from A New Hope, that just served as vessel for introducing the characters and new story arcs. What I'm trying to get across is that it creates a lot of potential for the future movies, but it would be seen as a very lackluster and unoriginal movie if no more were planned.

It's incredibly lackluster and unoriginal regardless. The characters even say they had already performed that mission before, it's just a different scale. It lacks so much creativity and the plot is copy/paste. Ep. 1 was far better and didn't do the same thing over as IV. Too bad people gave Lucas so much flack for the prequels because he would have done a better job with Ep. VII.

Abrams had to play it incredibly safe with the movie because of how defensive people are about Star Wars. I think he played it too safe, but regardless it had to be very similar to 4,5,6 in order to not receive a ton of flak from the fans. From what he did with the movie I think that he didn't really take the series anywhere new (like, at all) but he set himself up so that he can make the other movies great. It's not a strategy I agree with entirely, but it makes sense.

The movie didn't set a new standard for Star Wars, but it didn't break the series (like the prequels kinda did) and it makes me hopeful that the new ones will raise the bar.

My thing is I don't want to see another Death Star in the rest of the series. Seriously, at some point someone has to go to the treasurer and say "We spend years making these things, sink major amounts of money into the components, fill them with tons of personnel, fire them once, then they get blown up. It's not worth it!"

The Force Awakens has its flaws, but it is not a campy movie at all.

Not arguing. You asked and I answered. Sorry you do not agree but don't assume just because you think a certain way that it means that I do. The second trilogy pales in comparison and it's not even close.

The original trilogy suffered from its share of issues, but most of those were forgivable (incest aside) because we could suspend disbelief as long as the universe at least remained internally consistent. The prequels, alongside numerous major writing and story flaws, broke that internal consistency which makes them that much worse.

I actually like the prequels, but a lot of the hatred comes from the wasted potential the movies represent.

I would go Empire - Force Awakens - Revenge, otherwise I agree. Might even flip 2 and 3, both good movies. Empire is just so good though, can't put the others above it personally.

--As someone who spent 100's of hours reading "Legends" Star Wars books growing up...and..you know..knowing what Star Wars was before 1999...Force Awakens was about as good as Shurima's lore. Was the movie good? I ...uh..guess.... Was it worth killing off my childhood's worth of Star Wars lore like Courtship of Princess Leia, New Jedi Order: Star by Star, Rogue Planet, and Tales of the Bounty Hunters?

I'm hoping Episode 8 makes up for my lost lore.....like Rito's Soon(tm) on giving us a world map and...stuff. But the movie in itself...as a replacement for all the old lore....was bad. Really bad. Only reason I didn't rate it 7th was because of the hope of things to come. It has potential to make some cool things, but in itself, does not have those cool things. Unlike Ep 1 and 2...which pretty much expended all the potential to make cool things it will ever make...and..they weren't worth it. Though the Toonami Clone Wars thing was pretty neet. But yeh...if Ep8 ends up being bad... item 3070
