Why are items removed?

Ever since i started playing in season 4 i wandered why were items removed. I get items being removed for breaking the game like dfg but fun items like sword of divine or sword of the occult that didnt really affect the meta were just removed so im here to ask what is the reason for them to not just stay in the game? do they just take space or something else?
