So do you get demoted no matter what after placements?

Finished last season Gold 4. Went 6-4 playing against all Golds and Plats. Yet I'm placed in Silver 1? WTF is this bullshit? Does Riot place you lower than you were previously NO MATTER WHAT to ensure you keep playing their game? If so, lame. I've heard of several similar scenarios

One of the major reasons for it is to facilitate a general crunch. Since at the beginning of each season the Challenger Tier is emptied out, in order to keep those players from simply wrecking, the reset allows a general shift towards the average before placements.

Don't worry too much, though. There's a pretty rapid shift over the first bunch of games after placements, as it continues to fine-tune where you should be.

Couple exceptions but yes overall.

There was a soft reset - that means your MMR gets normalized closer to average from what it was. Then you have your placement matches. So yes, you are likely to be lower than last season in most cases.

seems like this system only benefits high challenger players (pros) with the reset does it mean that the first month or so u stand a lot better chance of doing promo's against people well out of ur league ?

I went from G4 to G1 after going 8-2 with a 7-0 game streak.
