Clubs outage Oct 2016 -- November Update!

We know some of you are seeing continued issues with club membership and tags. Currently, we are tracking down 2 main issues:

  • Some owners not being able to see the club they own
  • Clubs appear as not having any owner

Once we get some further info, we'll make sure to update everyone!

Hey all -

Riot martlet here from the Clubs team - let’s talk about the recent (and ongoing) clubs outage. First things first: we’re aiming to be up and running by Monday.

Back on Friday we experienced an unexpected event that took down clubs: One of our automated tools incorrectly identified clubs as being inactive, shutting down the service. Adding to the problem, our initial backup solutions and recovery plans weren’t enough, which delayed our ability to return clubs to a functioning state.

We know one cause of the issue was a significant breakdown in communications between the team monitoring the automated tool and ours, and we’re working to patch up the communication pipeline. We’re also improving our backup and recovery process for the future.

We know this has been a painful process, and we’re disappointed we couldn’t find a faster solution. Fortunately, we found a way to rebuild the clubs database using game data since August 23.

The few players who set a club tag but didn’t play a game between August 23 and now may see some issues when we get everything back on. Please send a ticket to Player Support if you’re a club owner that sees any problems like this, and thanks for your patience so far.

While I am a non-Club user, I find it odd that it has taken this long to actually identify the issue, much less fix it.

While the answer to my question may be obvious, I'd like to know anyway: was what happened a possible scenario during your internal testing of the Clubs-system? Is it likely, or even possible, that it can happen again the same way? Will your fixes on this issue possibly limit the automated system's ability to take care of other similar problems, should they ever occur at a later date (because usual overlapping spaghetti code)?

Forgive my harshness, but given the mass of recent problems (online match history, icon gifting, in-client profile button, the entire Support page, Clubs, Board report button), I get a distinct feeling that your automated systems are severly underpowered, and - to be blunt - not at all fit to take care of the tasks they've been programmed to do.

Given your in-house "company policy" in most such things (R.I.P. Clarity™), I cannot comment on where any limitations might be, but I get a feeling they're most definitely there.

So I'm a club leader and all of the members are back in the club. Aparantly I still show up in the club (but I'm offline) and when I go to the club tab it says I'm not in any clubs. Would me nice if I could get some help

Everyone in my club, except me, have their clubs half working (club tag and can see who's online).

Oddly enough, I'm the owner of the club, and it shows that I have no club at the moment. :P

I am a club owner and I have experienced a bug that it doesn't give me the access to the club, my friends see me as a club owner. Where do I sent the ticket and how? Is it in the "Report a bug"?

i'm not upset about clubs still being down. I understand there can be unexpected issues. But why don't you keep us updated? Atleast once every few days? Please?

I saw that clubs were fixed but when I logged in, I coudnt see any of my clubs. I can see that a lot of people already have their club tags. I own 1 club and am part of another one, but neither of them show up for some reason

Hi,I'm a club owner and somehow, It dosent appear my club tag? ( yes we do have more than 5 members, etc) It also says that I'm not in any clubs but, like I said, I'm the club owner..( and it still exists) Thanks![zombie-nunu-tears]

I'm the leader of my club, and I cannot see my tag in game, nor can I see my club in the menu. However, I can still see it in the LoL Friends mobile app, so I know it is still around. Any solution yet?

Any update on restoring club ownership? I play with my members all the time, but I am still unable to utilize my tag. I realize since this only affects club owners at this point, it is not as important as if it affects the entire club, but we are still left with clubs without their leader. Small percentage or not, you are leaving us without the ability to talk to many of our members without using other means or messaging them individually.

Please provide an update.

Is there anyway we can get an update on the clubs situation? You mentioned the goal was for clubs to be up by Monday, and it's Wednesday now, with no mention of any progress.

Oh rito and their ETA's i guess i now know where the queue timer gets it from "estimated wait 2 min"

Clubs being down is a blessing. You want the most toxic absolute assholes in the game just look there. The fact you even thought clubs was a good idea alone is sheer stupidity. Whos going to report each other in a 4 man premade club? Ever been that 5th guy and had to deal with 20 to 50 minutes of constant abuse in form of pings chat and everything else? Topping it off to is theyre all reporting YOU because "hahaha". Clubs is a bad idea a stupid system and always will be.
