Riot is Very Hypocritical

This discussion will be base off of the video attached with an emphasis at 4:30 time line.

I have a great understanding of the "Summoners Code" which Riot Games says they take very serious. I wanted to create this discussion not with intend to create chaos in the community or amongst the players but to see how people react to my feelings about the Summoners Code and specifically the Tribunal System.

I will start by saying I have participated heavily in reviewing cases in the Tribunal and I have also been punished by the Tribunal so my opinion and comments here are unbiased. I recently have been emailing the "support team" which just so happens to be a system of automated responses which after much complaining and requesting for a live agent, brought me to 'Templar Iytsuna'. I thought I was having a hard time before with the automated messages but damn, I kind of wanted them back after this "helper". I will say at the time of the initial email I had received a 2 weeks ban for toxicity (enter System of a Down music). I did claim that I was not emailing about a reduction or removal of the ban because to some extend whether I wanted to admit it or not I was at fault. I received an email saying my ticket was being transferred to a behavior specialist to better assist me. The first thing this specialist 'Templar Iytsuna' said in the email was the exact same thing 2 different automated bots (MaggieNoodle & ShortyPeewee) said as if I didn't understand it the first 2 times.

After many emails with Templar Iytsuna, I let the situation take a breather for a day or two until I saw the video attached to this discussion which is Riot Games "/ALL Chat | Are You TOO Competitive? "

At specifically 4:30 a question is asked about mental warfare within the game to throw off your opponents by "picking on one of them". So how does Riot Games go from enforcing the "Summoners Code" very heavily to posting a public video for the entire community to see which promotes "toxic" behavior or the act of picking on a single person to throw them off yet if players do this and get reported its punishable. This could not be any more the definition of hypocritical. Normally I don't give a sh%t about posting on boards and forums because I have not had a company that blatantly punishes people for the exact thing their employees promote and do.

I don't want to entirely blame riot for all of the problems with community misbehavior but I have to say they are highly at fault. The system they have implemented to deal with offenders is a joke aka the Tribunal System. I have talked to many players (some that even reported me) just to get their opinions of the system as well. There is an overwhelming majority of players whom do one of a few things. 1.They either go to the tribunal after having many upsetting games with or against "Toxic Players" to try to make a difference (I will say going into the tribunal system already angry makes the willingness to actually review entire cases thoroughly but rather punish those with the slightest of 'toxic behavior'). 2.Players already have a bad attitude before even playing and go there to look only for reasons to punish other players (enter personal reason here) Both of these reasons have the same base premise that the intend in any of those cases is that of which a punishment is the desired result. It is extremely rare that players go to the tribunal and review cases because they thought "You know what let me go to the Tribunal for a bit and look to see if I can find people who were falsely reported and try to help them out". Don't get me wrong, if there is a case in Tribunal and it is a unjust report, most people will help that person out but the initial intent of going to tribunal is undoubtedly to punish players.

MY SOLUTION

Disclaimer: I am not saying my solution would be better than the current system nor am I saying its an amazing system but I do believe it is worth at least getting some attention over. Feel free to comment opinions on it and keep in mind you are entitled to your own opinions so feel free to be honest with your opinion as long as the intend is not to solely deride mine.

I feel that the Tribunal System has great potential. I do feel like it is very biased and situational the way it is now. The entire point of a Punishment system is to PROMOTE an environment free from excessive banter. The natural competitiveness of games automatically creates an environment where players will talk smack to each other regardless of the game. It happens in every game and it is going to happen. This competitive nature is why there is a professional gaming scene. If everyone was nice and buddy-buddy with each other than not true competitive environment would exist. We all know League of Legends is a very Highly watched competitive game with prize pools over 1 million dollars. What would you do for a million dollars? Probably a lot more than say CYA NERDS right? Exactly.

My solution is to take this existing system which emphasizes punishing players over promoting positive behavior and allow it to run a different course of action. The tribunal right now highlights the reported players name which puts automatic attention to only that player (creating a biased course of action right from the get go because people assume the reported player did something bad so hey look for something bad). Instead I feel the Tribunal should be a system where if a report is made, the chat log like it is now will be reviewed but instead of highlighting the REPORTED players name it leaves them all as is. The system then allows for reviewers to loo at the logs and determine who they believe is at fault (keep in mind it may be more than 1 person). If the majority of reviewers agrees that the same person and/or people are at fault of OVERLY aggressive behavior (because remember games are competitive in nature) then yes let punishment run its course. This creates a checks and balances on the community which right now is way to report happy for any little bit of "sh%t talk" (which was promoted in the all chat video by riot employees, a guest star and a ex-professional player). People will actually think twice before just reporting everyone in the game because now with this system they could receive punishment for any behavior that the community finds toxic in the tribunal. Also, think about times when players are being "toxic" in many cases there was an instigator who may have provoked a person or pushed a person to act out with "toxic" behavior.

Like I said, I have received punishment and punishment had been issued thanks to my tribunal reviewing so I know the feeling from both sides. After a long ban on my account I did my best to discourage toxic behavior and I even turn of my all chat for around 4 months. During that 4 month span of me not even talking in game unless it was to my friends, I received in excess of 1000 games of chat restriction and also another 2 week ban after the chat restriction. I literally said nothing to the other teams for 4 months and I only spoke to my friends in game. The only thing I said after the games in the stats screen was "lol ez" or "2ez". Does that chat right there (which does not show in the report offense in tribunal) really incur the wraith of 1000 games of chat restriction and a 2 weeks ban when streamers deride or players and say the same thing on their Twitch Streams? You be the judge.
