Alright so here's the problem: ranked series/promos, as they stand right now, really suck.

TL;DR: I think the series/promos systems should be relooked at with the goal of making them equaly exciting, rewarding, and challenging while being less frustrating.

What's wrong with the series right now:

Let's start out with how ranked works and why we have series promos in the first place. LP and ranks is first of all not at all how the system tracks how you are progressing. The real method of progression is by increasing your MMR, which is achieved (basically) by having above a 50 percent win rate when playing against people who are as good as you. This is then translated into LP and ranks.

Now, the LP system with series and promos was made with the goal to make everything more exciting. However, imo promos are little else than a frustrating barrier between each tier that cause frustration and promote a toxic environment.

Personally, I am terrible at passing series. I do everything I can to maintain the same mental state that was working for me up until that point, but I always end up playing differently in my series, giving up kills i wouldn't normally and becoming easily upset at my teammates' errors (I only rage in my head). I am sure that others have this problem. Once I lose my series, I relax, win the next game or two, and the process begins again for 3-4 more times until I finally win essentially by luck.

You are not even statiscally expected to win your series. You need a > 50% winrate to climb. But, u may need as high as a 66% winrate to win your series.

Some may say: If you can't win your series, you don't deserve the next tier. True, but realize that climbing is more about how consistency and winrates, while random chance and anxiety can mess up a series again and again. Realize that climbing to the series is an accomplishment of its own.

The bottom line is losing series over and over again is extremely frustating, it sucks for the player, and it sucks for the community. Obviously if you can reach a series like 5-6 times you deserve the next tier. So what can be done? How can we keep the rewarding and exciting feel of passing a series while easing its frustration?

Here's an example change:

Keep the system exactly the same, except: Give players a free win in their series based on how many times they have reached it without dropping below 50 LP. Maybe give like 1 free win starting on your 2nd or 3rd try, and if its a B05 give a 2nd one on the 5th or 6th try.

What does this do? Well most people will be unaffected. Those who pass on the 1st or 2nd try see no difference. Those who are there by chance quicky fall below 50 LP and don't get their free wins. But those who are bouncing around 100LP frustrated as can be get a bit of extra help moving pass the artificial rut in the system created by the promos.

Won't this push the community upwards? Maybe but what is so bad about that? If its a real problem there could be something similar that pushes people down a rank after hitting 0 LP often.

Anyways, my argument is that the promos as they stand are very frustrating for those who are stuck at them, and that if you are able to get to them many times, then that person clearly deverves the next tier but just has trouble passing series. With the season ending relatively soon, just wanted to make a proposition to reevaulate the ranked system as it stands and try to make it more enjoyable for eveyone.
