Better loss prevented detection
Are you tired of losing 20+ lp because a player gets disconnected/client crashes? HOW is it justified that you lose 2-10 games victories' worth of lp (depending on your elo) because of a situation that you can do nothing about? Just have to play out of your mind and win a 4v5...well what if the other team just plays safe and smart?
You would think Riot by now would have some sort of detection of games that are affected by this. Nope, not really. Here's their definition currently of how a player can receive a 'loss prevented.'
This mode only activates when a large number of players are being impacted on a system-wide scale. We hit something we call "The Button" to activate it for the platform. Compensation Mode cannot be retroactively enabled or turned on for a player on an individual basis.
How many games have to be affected before that threshold is hit, where it's considered a 'system-wide scale?' Who knows? I've personally experienced two disconnects from the very beginning of a game within a 4 hour period; was a loss prevented rewarded in either game, no. How much elo did I lose? Luckily only one games worth, one game me and my team went beast-mode and smashed the other team.
It's pretty obvious when a player isn't connected, they're champion is just standing in the fountain gaining no xp; getting no minion kills; champion kills, deaths or assists. Pretty obvious or noticeable to any player. I know the Riot servers have a lot to handle hosting thousands or millions of games each day, fighting bugs, attacks.
Thanks for reading this far if you have; so here's my suggestion: have a simple algorithm that can monitor each champions: level, cs, experience at maybe the 3, 6 and 10 minute mark in the game. And if the algorithm detects that a champion's stats haven't changed between those 3 marks, could a loss prevented be awarded then?
Up to any suggestions in how we can all stop losing ridiculous amounts of lp for something out of our control...and make Riot do something about it.
