I have to say though, its difficult keeping cool when others
don't reciprocate. I've lost plenty of ranked games because people found it
easier to just make it hard for everyone else.

I got Nurse Akali, I don't play her at all, but I think I'll start playing some games now. :)
But yeah, I had a game earlier this week where I was told to kill myself, stop being such a F*****, etc and things like this really does counter act that.
It's nice to see them reward people who do support the community instead of just hearing about punishing trolls.
