Why is Master Yi Built glass cannon?

Hear me up for a sec, I know the popular build is going pretty much full damage on master yi and hope you don't get CC locked, I was just wondering why he isn't build more like irelia and well...perform as her.

I was checking the stats and they pretty much have similar base stats The only real difference would be 10 more armor and around 5 more AD from irelia but that's at lvl 18 which means that for most of the game they should have similar stats. So why isn't he built with and then full tank, or maybe / and then full tank if jungle? is because the full damage Yi usually performs better than a "Tankster" Yi or is because no one have ever though about it?

Yi should still be able to delete squishes with base damage plus wuju style bonus true damage, he will indeed ave much more harder time killing tanks but he would be much more durable on contrast and still a great treat late game, I think building him durable should counter his biggest weakness which is susceptible to being CC locked....

Can a main top run a few mocks for me and see how he performs? I'm really curious to see why is he built the way it is instead of a more irelia-like way, is there something am I missing?

He can't proc triforce nearly as well as irelia can. Irelia gets 4 triforce procs just from her ult, and her true damage is flat and doesn't scale off AD like Yi's does, plus she has much less survivability when built glass cannon (Yi is a reset carry, he has a ton of survivability with alpha strike/meditate resets)

its because most people who play yi are either one-trick-ponies who can handle yi so good that they can afford building glasscannon or they are noobs who copy the yi mains. a very good friend of mine who was actually top 1 yi europe for quite some time said, and its true, bruiser build is the best you can do. i cant tell you the exact builds but being a bruiser is the strongest dueling setup and thus makes you very hard to counter. glass cannon yi literally is a build to own uncoordinated noobs.

oh and he was yi toplane, not jungle.

People have built him tank before. Honestly it just doesn't perform as well. Part of the reason Irelia works better like that is because of her stun, ult, and passive. They let her keep up the fight with almost no problem and she can easily burst her squishy. However Yi needs to stop fighting to heal(minus lifesteal and BotRK active), doesn't have a stun, and is way too susceptible to CC even with the 15% tenacity in masteries and 20% in merc treads, and Irelia can proc Sheen a lot more. I mean, it works, and you could use it and get good at it, but generally Yi can just 2-shot squishies and annihilate any carries on the team before he can get CC'd and killed, whereas tank Yi can stay in the fight longer but not destroy the carries, and probably will get CC'd and then killed.

Yi just scales so well with attackspeed. Unlike Irelia, Yi has his passive that makes him hit twice every few attacks. Add Sated Devourer in there and he's doing that one attack extra. Add even more attackspeed in there and hit up the ult and you've got a high speed diamond-bladed blender strapped to a Nascar on crack. Another reason he doesn't build Triforce into tank is he doesn't proc it often enough to make full use of it without having a lot of attackspeed to keep his Q cooldown low, and by then you're better off just auto attacking because using Q when you don't need to lowers your DPS. Yi also needs to build AD to scale his damage or he does nothing because he has no CC to work with like Irelia does nor does he have an on-hit heal to make up for his lower DPS like Irelia does. Another thing is Yi may be able to kill squishies without building full damage but he won't be able to melt tanks like he does when building full damage.

The fact is they're much more different than you'd suggest. It's frankly absurd you'd even think they at all similar just because they have similar base stats.
