A friendly goodbye. Thank you for everything.
I was just playing a match vs Nasus in top lane and it suddenly hit me: this game is pointless. And I don't mean in a 'I need to rethink my life' pointless, I mean in a 'I'm up against a champ who dictates the lane no matter how you play' kind of way. Let me explain: you trade unsuccessfully and Nasus builds stacks; you trade successfully...and Nasus builds stacks when you're not there. The same goes for Tryndamere and a small number of other top lane bullies and mega-pushers, and it's just not fun. Whenever I see Nasus on either side in the lobby my heart sinks because I know I'm about to play a game that is dictated by top lane. Nothing anyone else does matters because the top lane will be played out exactly the same: it will be pushed at every opportunity regardless of the action elsewhere. And that just isn't fun, always knowing that even if you swarm the top-lane bully and take him out that he'll be back in two seconds. There's no ebb and flow to that kind of game, just a constant irritating niggle that you know if you don't keep going back to top lane every two seconds it will get pushed down to the inhibitor, and even further why not? How is that fun?
So as we speak I am uninstalling the game...and it's gone. And just so you're aware I'm not uninstalling the game because I can't handle top-lane bullies, I'm uninstalling because Riot don't have the guts to take away iconic mechanics or abilities when they're detrimental to the game. Instead they build round them. If a mechanic is broken, fix it. Don't raise everything else up to try and match it. Nasus' Q is a great example of this, because, as I said, it's such a powerful ability that by ignoring every other facet of the game you can be assured to command the way the game plays every single time through it. It has a low cost, a low cooldown and, not that I need to mention it, it scales exponentially in power. There are simple ways to limit it's power, like giving it a longer cooldown if it fails to kill the target or making Nasus lose stacks on death, but that would require taking away an iconic piece of an iconic character and Riot just aren't brave enough to do it. That's why I am...have uninstalled the game: because I don't trust Riot to put 'fun' as it's top priority any more. The game is overshadowed by the professional scene where a Nasus is only as good as the guy playing against him, but down in the regular leagues we mere mortals can do nothing but whimper at the 'skill' vs 'awesomeness' mechanics that are a result of trying to make the competitive side more...competitive.
I have sunk many, many hours into this game and I haven't really regretted it, but now I feel it is time to move on. I have outgrown you, League of Legends, and I have come to see that you don't love me, not really. You love xPeke and Faker. I'm just another number.
Love you. Have a good life. XXX
