Just out of Curiosity.

End of season 3/beginning of season 4 is when I first started playing League of Legends. The First time I did my provisionals, immediately after hitting level 30, I won 3 out of my 10 games. I got put in Bronze 3. I didn't expect any better, considering that i thought I did pretty poorly. Now, at the beginning of season 5, I rush to do my provisionals, excited that I am now a more skilled and experienced player. I won 8 out of my 10 games, and where do I end up? Bronze 3. I know someone who won 3 games and got put in Gold 5. This simply just doesn't seem fair to me. I still don't understand the logic behind the ranking system and am very disappointed with my placement. I was hoping to find some clarity on the matter, or an explanation into how the ranking system is justified.

The biggest issue I have is that it is based on a past season a lot. What if, like me, you did ranked when you were still pretty new? I didn't do mine in S4 right when I hit 30 but I wasn't the same player I am now. I'm not saying that I deserve to be in platinum, gold, silver, whatever, I just don't see the point in it being based on the past.

For those that will say "just climb out" what if someone did after a long time and then they get put straight back there this season? How is that a reward for doing well?

That is what it feels like to a lot of people. Me? I've only done two provisionals so far but knowing that I finished in lowly Bronze 3 last season I can imagine that I'll be shoved in B4 or B5 regardless of how the other 8 games go.

it doesnt care about your last season even though they say it does silver 5 -> bronze 3... 1500 MMR before placements 940 after placements... yeah right based off of last season my ass

The League system puts you close to where you were the previous season. The people you faced were all Bronze III level the second time, I am guessing.

season 3 i did my promotionals and was placed in bronze 1... season 4 i did my placements got bronze one again and worked my way into silver... just finished my fuckin placements and i got bronze 3... HOW THE FUCK can my "mmr be lower than the rank i was last season" when i've been nothing but bronze 1 and higher?

This is what I'm saying. It makes no sense. And the whole "MMR" changes will basically make it impossible to carry ourselves out of the rank we've already been placed in. Just seems like bs to me. I think Riot needs to work on changing the ranking system into making it more efficient, and accurate. I Know Bronzies that belong in plat, I know plats that belong in bronze.

If you read the 2015 Season start announcement, you will see that they are doing the Placements different now; you no longer get a free ride to a high rank just for doing good in 10 games. It's based off where you were already, minus some MMR (because even Challengers were dropped down 3 entire Tiers), plus a little for how well you did in Placements.

i had 1500 MMR BEFORE i played my placements LITTERALY checked before i did my placements on LoLKING and OP.gg, played my placements 940 MMR and bronze 3... wtf?

1: Only Riot has your real MMR 2: Everybody lost MMR with the new season. The purpose of "seasonal ladders" is that they get reset and people climb back up them each new season; it's just that they weren't doing that before and you were arbitrarily placed due to a meager 10 Placement matches which honestly is a terrible way to gauge your skill because that is impossible in only 10 matches. I said you'd know this if you read the 2015 Ranked Season details article. 3: Challengers were demoted 3 entire tiers. What was your complaint again? If you are Silver material, prove it, because that's what a ranked ladder is for.

Challengers we're demoted 3 tiers and? they have the time to grind the 100s of games to get there where as some of us don't! i've already proven i'm silver material but rito decided to fuck that over! and if everyone is "starting over" then how is it they only lost 3 tiers? that doesn't seem like starting over to me

in previous seasons, placement games were way more impactful than regular season games. Your placement will still be heavily influenced by where you ended up last season. If you’ve never played ranked, then your form in your placements will be all that matters!

ORLY? i was silver 5... and that "heavy influence" makes me bronze 3 this season?

we’re again running a soft reset to player position with the start of the ranked season

soft reset... soft re.... soft... yeah i remember they did that at the start of season 4 i remember being soft reset from silver 5 bac to bronze 1 but not silver 5 to bronze 3 this is not a "soft reset"

You assert that Challengers have time to grind simply because they are better than you? Wow. That is a really pathetic excuse, and not remotely true.

You were demoted a mere 3 divisions. You can go up and down divisions 5 times in a day. Get over it.

Seriously. Do you just not care what a seasonal ranked ladder is? Are you incapable of comprehending what that means? It means you have to prove your skill again instead of taking up a spot others are competing for.

That is what your entire issue is; you can't fathom the singular and simple purpose of seasonal ranked ladders.

this is not an asumption based on how good i am or am not, this is an asumption based on the amount of games that it takes to get to challanger nothing more and nothing less. if you have, and continue to do so, devoted the time to get to challanger then you have the time now don't you?

Questioning my intelligence because i don't agree with having my last 3 seasons worth in ranked gameplay flushed down the toilet because rito said "fuck you" isn't exactly a smart thing to do. I understand how ranked ladders work and i understand how the ranked ladder has worked for the last few season HOWEVER this is a complete FUCKOVER of the last few seasons ranked system and rito expects everyone to just take it like a bitch and get over it just like the sona rework and WE ALL KNOW rito wont change shit even though the community bitches because why would they?

I fully understand I could be placed in Bronze. I also fully intend on working out of it. You could have already gone up a division in the time you spent complaining about your situation.

Just because you are extremely mad about such a simple non-issue doesn't mean everyone is that childish.

I do believe he's taken it a little far, but it is an issue that I think Riot needs to fix. Its not because we're butt hurt or because we can't get out of bronze. It's because the ranking system isn't working in anyone's favor, and we believe that somethings should be done about it. I'm sure a lot of other people agree~

I don't think its fair that it's now based off of where you were already. Over time skill and experience changes, which effects future game play. In a year I could have gone from Bronze material to Plat material but riot just assumes that I still belong in Bronze? That's why I mentioned that My first provisionals were finished right after I could even play ranked. I had no little skill and little experience in game play. Obviously, this has changed, but Riot seems to not be taking this into consideration. I'm sure this is the case for others as well T~T

Dear Julie,

I will try to help you out explaining what I can with my experience I gained over the past 4 years.

The current ranking system isn't working for either to be really honest, and you aren't the only one that seems to be complaining about your placement, and I think and I honestly do that RIOT needs to consider to take a look at the system setup for this because it's just horrible because it is the same as it was last year. An horrific time for us where we had to realise that we were placed in bronze even ending up in Silver/Gold.

However the only thing right now what I can do for you Julie, is to say, don't give up, don't let your head hang down because of these placement matches, go through that barricade of annoying and toxic players and show the world what you have in your march, go out there on the battlefield and show them what you have. Even if you are not successful.

For me the most successful players are the ones that don't settle back after they realised something bad happened to them

Just a side note.. I did email this (with a little extension) to Riot support to see if anyone would respond on the matter. I'll let you know if anyone does, but I highly doubt it.
