When You Tilt Too Far

Made up story but based off a true one. Im sorry if I upset anyone and im even sorrier if this comes out as a sob story (slightly cuz it is)

It was 8:00. Rough day at work. I'll just play a game of league, I thought. I thought. Going bot lane with my main support. Five minutes in, and then the resounding sounds of "First Blood!" and "An ally has been slain!" hits my ears. 0-3? I might have a hard time this game.

20 minutes in and all hell broke loose. Ahri was 1-9. And her score was the best one on our team's. And it's not like anyone on the team is specifically to blame, either. Each and every single person on our team was trying their best and optimistic. Each of our players knew it was their fault. The game was harsh - the opposing team wasn't making any signs of slipping up. Trying to group got us stomped. Trying to split made a 1v4 for our split pusher. The rest of our team couldn't even make a dent through their towers' health - I've never seen a Nasus with stacks so high.

I was amazed that we made it to the 30:00 minute mark. We were turning a bit too; we finally managed to shut down the Nasus and Zed. But it was about around this time when the opposing team started to trash talk. The chat started to get plagued with insults and spam. Our Twitch got verbally harassed because he secured a kill off of their Amumu. I hazily remember a post about them lacerating his family and pouring vinegar into each wound. Our Ahri got focused each time there was a teamfight and their team apparently took pride in that too. It's not like they tried to hit Ahri more than any of us; they intentionally walked by all of us to get to Ahri - without using skills or abilities.

And after they got our Ahri, mostly because of the Nasus' flanking, the whole team started recalling or spamming emotes. They spammed in all chat, saying "GET REKT KID!!!1!" Our Ahri was initially amused and okay with it, knowing it was just a joke, but when it repeated over and over again, she decided to draw the line. Like that would have worked. After our Ahri's attempt to stop the trash talking from their team, telling them to stop it, verbal abuse started flying at her from all directions. Muting them wasn't much help, either. They were chasing her down 24-7 now, using abilities only to slow and cc her. Once they got to her, they spammed emotes until the cc wore off, which was when they deleted her.

By now, the trash talk was directed to all of us. They focused all of our game play and criticized it. Each time we made a mistake, or what THEY DEEMED to be a mistake, they criticized it. Each criticism ended in the target being called a scrub or being told to uninstall.

Those times it didn't hurt as much. Other times, it struck personally. One of the players started to call our game play cancer. Another started to call our lives cancer. The first person then decided that we didn't have lives and that "cancer doesn't deserve to have a life." Personally, it didn't hurt much, as I knew this was the typical, infamous "toxicity" that the forums hate and what Riot strives to destroy. But apparently one of our Talon was related to a person suffering from that disease. Just like our Ahri's previous attempt to stop this toxicity, he told the enemy team not to make those kind of jokes anymore and that their statements weren't funny. I can't stress enough how much our Talon was targeted by the enemy team; both through the chat and the actual game.

284°

It was around the 45:00 minute mark that broke our team completely. By now each of our team members were targeted specifically and rudely, including me. In our private team chat, we reassured ourselves that what they were saying wasn't true and not to listen to themselves. We also said that when the game was over, we can report each of them and they wouldn't hurt anyone anymore. But the hate continued to come. We continued to die.

The worst part of this experience was that they weren't pushing. They weren't farming. The only person on their team that looked like he was putting any effort into the game was Nasus, who was also apparently the ringleader of their group of intense toxicity. All they did was taunt us, making us tilt and slip up in our game play. Each time we tried to farm or push, however, they instantly grouped up and took down whoever they deemed as "worthy of death - cancer isn't even good enough to die."

I felt like a complete jacka** too. Most of them dearly wanted to surrender, especially Talon and Ahri, but two of us, our Sivir and I, kept clicking no. It wasn't like I wanted to see them suffer; of course not. I just wanted to see how far this could go and how long they could keep up their "rulers of the world" attitude. Our game play by now was complete trash, but still. All I needed was a few more minutes, a little bit more evidence of their crimes of toxicity and hatred. Then the message saying "The enemy team has slain Baron Nashor!" appeared.

343°

The Ahri disconnected. She said she couldn't take this hatred anymore-she needed to go away. We couldn't blame her, either. All we did was say sorry and it wasn't her fault for what happened during the entirety of the game. Our Talon disconnected, too. He said that the whole experience made him want to puke, and that he was definitely going to visit that relative of his later on. Both agreed that they would leave their clients open though, and that they would reconnect last minute so that they would have an oppurtunity to report the toxic team.

358°

The team started to treat us more horrible. In one minute, one minute since the Talon and Ahri disconnected, that their language started to become more violent. Their typing speed has apparently increased too, we couldn't send a message to each other and let it stay in chat for more than 2 seconds before it got overcome by hate. Their messages were hitting vulnerable nerves - I just thought that I could NOT mute them; I needed to see the chat for evidence when I send in my report.

359°

A whole minute. The Talon and Ahri reconnected by now. They knew that we wouldn't last long under the pain of the opposing team. We were no way near to comeback, and there was no hope that we would be. The surrender message came up. My vote was already in. I think that the surrender suggestion came from me.

360°

After the game. Each of them got reported. Two of their team members reported each of us for unskilled. I cried that night. Now, that night, I began thinking if there was no games to play where I could tilt, then I couldn't tilt. Maybe I would take it a step further than just not playing League anymore. Maybe it was the game of life I needed to stop playing.

tl;dr Don't make people tilt. It hurts. The story was horrible ik. Ok bai c:
