I'm unsure if i'm not understanding ranked matches correctly or not, but I just played my 3rd ranked match ever against 2 silver II's and a gold V with a completely unranked team. That doesn't seem right to me. Shouldn't you only play against people the same rank as yourself?

The rank you see is really just for visuals. When being matched against other players, the matchmaking system looks at your MMR (matchmaking rating) and pairs with players of a similar MMR.

You really have 2 ranks, your MMR(also known as ELO) and your league rank.

Your league rank is what everyone see, its the silver 2 and the gold 5.

Your MMR is hidden and is what you are matched based on. It is entirely possible for a silver 2 player and a gold 5 player to have the same MMR. Especially since it takes a lot to drop out of division 5s. So if someone got to gold 5 at some point and then started losing its not much of a stretch for them to get to a silver 2 mmr.
