My Opinion on Chat Restrictions, From a 4 Year Veteran and 4 Time Perma Banned Player

Before I state my opinion on chat restrictions, I am first going to give some background about myself: I've played this game for four years, I've had four permanently banned accounts, and my current account has a chat restriction of 700 games. I'm sure for the average reader this alone sparks a recollection of the many times they've had toxic people such as myself in their game. However, I urge you to read this with an open mind for this post is not meant to bring on hatred and generalization for all toxic players, instead, it is meant to draw upon the issue of imperishable chat restrictions. As most people know, restrictions are not a temporary ban, they require games to be played in order for the restrictions to be lifted. My personal opinion on this punishment is that it does not serve any purpose other than to frustrate the restricted individual and to tease them. The duration of the restriction can be played out within any period based on how much the individual plays, (within reason) however I believe the main problem is that people need time. Time has been known to heal just about everything-souls, minds, emotions, beliefs, can all be changed and healed with time. For me, this quote sticks out to me: “Scars have the strange power to remind us that our past is real.” In the back of my mind, I am constantly thinking of all the horrible things I've said and done to League players who's on mistake was not doing things in a video game that I wanted them to do, and it makes me feel horrible. I believe that chat restrictions serve the purpose of constantly reminding a person that they screwed up and are a seemingly unending reminder of their mistakes. Sure most people may not re offend after being punished, but for those who quit the game and came back to it months only to still be held back by their past is not fair in my opinion. Restrictions aren't lifted with time like old bans used to be, no matter if the person has truly changed their attitude or not they WILL still be portrayed and reminded about their past mistakes, despite their efforts to move forward. When someone calls you something time and time again, you start to believe it and embed that personality; and when each and every time you log on to an account and are constantly reminded of your chat ban and your "toxicity", it may be easier for some to embrace it than to wait on and everlasting restriction. I'll end with a very exaggerated and dramatic example to help understand my opinion is for you to think of the "toxic" person as a prison inmate, would you rather them serve 5 years where they have time to think about their actions, (and of course a minority will re offend similar to League) or for that inmate to instantly be given limited probation, where the problem isn't fully being addressed and the idea of their past life and freedoms is being teased at and limited. (May not be the greatest example but I'm not perfect) For those who will bring up my current 700 game chat restriction, the account had been restricted for 6 months prior to me returning to it, and in that time I severely changed my attitude towards life and more specifically playing League for fun. That being said, and somewhat to reiterate whats already been said, it's very hard to have to play out 700 games before I can enjoy full communication in the game, and still having to worry about the restriction being refreshed from the toxicity I had 6 months ago while still restricted.
