Should AFK matches be Loss Prevented

Rito, plz do something about afkers, I mean seriously, at least set those games with an afk loss prevented. I just finished my placement match for this season, and most of those games are gold/plat level games. And in those 10 matches, I have 1 vayne on our side who decided to go completely afk because he failed to outplay the enemy Jax and got killed. I have another 3 games involving players think some one is just plain too stupid and refuse to play. Just take my last game for example, our Lucian made a mistake and got killed by the enemy Jinx early, so he is a bit behind in items and then a fight break out in the dragon's pit, and with a under farmed adc on our side, we lost the fight 0 for 1, our support nautilus says in the chat "Its just sad to watch this Lucian, you have no damage", and our Lucian replied that he is under farmed, and he is trying to farm to get items to deal damage, so we should wait a bit to team fight. And out nautilus says something like its all your fault, I don't want to play with you, and he decided to when back into the base. About 5 minutes later, he come out of the base and used his ult and went back into the base again. It is clear he is not afk, he is watching the game and decide he do not want to help. I mean I understand if we lose lp in rank because we got outplay by the enemy. But its really frustrating that I lost my ranked match because there is a player on my team who refuse to play. And for some reason this happens a lot more in ranks then in normal. 3 out of my 10 placement match has someone refuse to play and another one has an afk. Thats like 40% chance of a 4v5.
It is just way to frustrating to play rank, and it is not just happening to me, one of my friend is in gold 2, and every single time in his promotion match, there is at least 1 afk, he played his promotion match 5 times this season, and happen every single time. Riot, plz, plz do something about it.

Only if afk wins are win prevented. Otherwise there will be so many easy ways to abuse it.

Also - then people will have an excuse to waste your time by afk'ing - "You'll get it loss prevented anyway". So no.

I don't think it should be a loss prevented, but I do think people who AFK should receive severe penalties such as -50 LP, and over time a ban from Ranked play. These cretins have no business joining ranked queue.

I'm tired of seeing these threads because they're the same idea restated over and over again. Fact is, this system or any system of compensation will be heavily abused. The only thing that can really be done is to increase the penalties for afks, and then you get people whining about how Riot's servers suck and they were wrongly punished.

TeemoJenkins3/31/2015, 7:23:06 PM3 votes

http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1777779754/202703050?tab=overview Voli and Teemo were both afk for 5-10 minutes in this game... if you have someone that's AFK from the beginning, absolutely something should be done. The majority of people complaining about AFK's have people that are leaving the game in progress which shouldn't qualify as any prevention.

phirestarter3/31/2015, 7:24:47 PM2 votes

When someone goes AFK it creates an unfair advantage for you, you've now got double or triple the cs, you no longer have to share....

I think you need to start looking at yourself and asking, why aren't you carrying these games? Ask not what Riot can do for you, but what you can do to carry.

bad arcade kitty3/31/2015, 10:37:57 PM1 votes

stfu already with these retarded ideas it's abusable, are you so stupid not to understand it? queue with a friend and tell them to go afk if you lose, gg

Anrui4/1/2015, 12:17:08 AM1 votes

Any system that gives any sort of compensation for losing (other than like, if Riot's server is literally messing up really badly which they already do), is extremely flawed and will be abused heavily.

This was pretty hard to read. From what I could make out, this is pretty much saying he had more trolls than AFKs in ranked games, so I'm not sure why he's complaining about AFKs. The suggestion to enable loss prevented for AFKs is pretty bad, due to it being easily abused. Why not just have the AFK take, say 1.5x average LP loss for the rest of his team is he's gone for more than five minutes? (AFKs are just as frequent and just as annoying in normals, just saying. I don't want to waste my time on a game that I know will most likely not be contested)

BennyVer4/1/2015, 12:48:11 AM1 votes

Sure, it might get abused to start, but if we see those smurfs abusing then permaban... I've had 3 games tonight and all 3 have had either an afk from start or after 10 minutes they decided they were done, in ranked. If its ARAM or normals, I don't mind a loss, I'm playing to learn or to mess around. If it's ranked, it's so difficult to say "yeah, I wanna go play some league" cause I know I'm gonna be in a pissy mood afterward...

MAZZ1M04/1/2015, 2:23:05 AM1 votes

I agree with idea, but there's no way to implement it that wouldn't make trolling worse. I suppose if the opposing team still won and the losing team had loss prevented, there's less damage done, but it would still be abused to high hell because anyone could take the hit and save the team. I see this being a huge problem in ranked team games.

Raptamei4/1/2015, 5:24:53 AM1 votes

Riot doesn't want to do this because people will harrass each other into leaving when the game is looking like a loss.

But I'm not sure why this is the players' problem. Riot gets paid for figuring out how to prevent things like this, and to add features the players want. They had plenty of time to come up with a solution.

bahamutkaiser4/1/2015, 6:07:46 AM1 votes

Not abusable, whatsoever...

LiQ mah DiQ4/1/2015, 6:43:43 AM1 votes

I literally lost 5/10 placement matches to people leaving or just AFK in general! Now I've had to work my way back from bronze 4, which isn't a big deal, but at the same time, this same scenario happened last season as well for 3 matches. It's just a robbery. At the bare minimum, if there was loss prevention when someone was afk from the beginning, that would still be a huge help. Two of those five games had someone afk at the start...

slippykitten4/1/2015, 8:17:27 PM1 votes

I don't understand everyone that claims it is abusable. It can be abused such a limited number of times due to leaverbuster that this isn't even a consideration. the person who afk's gets double ip loss and will be banned after only a few ranked afk's. A person could only abuse it to finagle 2-3 loss preventions, which at the end of the day, isn't significantly impacting their mmr gains in a potently abusable manner.

The other, very easily thought of if you have a brain, option is to simply put a time required on the afker before it excuses the game. So you would have to have an afk for X minutes before you would be eligible for loss prevention.

In other words, stop defending Riot for not implementing something like this with ridiculously illogical arguments.

Coming from someone who spends a lot of time and money on this awesome game, it is very disappointing to have someone afk or quit at the start of the game, thus resulting in a loss for my team (usually) and resulting in a BIG RED DEFEAT on my match history. We all know that people look at our match history, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to see lots of green! It would be so great if the losses due to afk'ers and quitters, showed up as a different color (yellow maybe) that says loss prevented. That way my 1/7/2 match with Diana that lasted 20.00 minutes, will atleast have an explanation of why I did so bad (4v5) because of the indicator on my match history. I am not pro or anything, but would love to move up and it would be such an appreciated change by the entire community. <3 Thanks!Amumu

If someone does not connect to the match at all, the match should be scrapped entirely - no win, no loss - and the player should be treated as though they dodged the game.

Otherwise, the game should play out as normal.

Loss Prevented has to be used as INFREQUENTLY as possible as it harms the integrity of the league system by causing inflation over time.

Edit: I should probably explain... after reading through the thread a little more thoroughly, I doubt people will know what I mean with this.

All league systems are built, essentially, on a giant zero-sum system. What that means is that the overall lp movement for every game is 0. The amount in should always equal the amount out when averaged over the entire game. So if my team moves up 100 LP for winning, your team MUST move down 100 for losing, or over time everyone either gradually accelerates towards challenger or descends towards bronze. By maintaining a zero sum system, the ratios of players in each league are maintained at approximately equal(with some exception accounting for people who are in the 'grace' period at the bottom of a tier). This ensures the system retains some level of balance.

If we add loss prevented to every afk game, we suddenly have a HUGE number of games that have LP in but NO(or virtually no) LP out. This results in a huge problem for the league system as we have more LP in than out and gradually over time the AVERAGE ranking rises, and thus ranking ceases to have meaning since everyone's suddenly in platinum or higher.

For anyone who might suggest that we just make the afk/leaver take the FULL penalty... how would you feel if you had an internet outage and dropped a full tier because of it even if you'd NEVER had a leave in your life other than that? 'cause that's what that would mean. Somewhere around 90-100 LP loss for a single game. This is FAR too punishing on accidental, unintentional, or emergency leaves and would simply result in a lot of perfectly decent people quitting the game over a single incident they had no control over. An accidental leave ALREADY feels really bad because of the stupid leaverbuster warning and the fact that you know you caused a loss for your team. Adding a 100 LP penalty to it would just mean most NORMAL people quit after their first disconnect while the intentional leavers just don't give a shit at all.

Edit 2: I also completely missed that this was a necro lol... silly necromancers.

Skilled Theory3/31/2015, 7:38:13 PM1 votes

No, because if you NEVER go afk it mathematically favors you. You only have 4 people on your team with a chance of going afk while the other team has 5. So it works out that over time the other team will have a little more than 50% of people going afk. I don't hear you complaining about all the times the enemy team had an afk and you got a free win.

GaleWinUnleashed3/31/2015, 8:07:11 PM1 votes

I'd say that could only be allowed if the person in question never connected the entire game. But there's even a problem with that; what if a duo decides they have no chance of winning from champ select, and has one of them AFK in order to save the other from a loss?

EL HAMSTERO3/31/2015, 8:08:20 PM1 votes

people are figuring out that you only win 50% of your matches in LoL no matter what you do. that is riots matchmaking system.

so if you lose on purpose it is quick and painless and you get a win for it in the future. with matchmaking every time you win, you lose. and when you lose you win.

That would also mean you get a "Win Prevented" if there is an AFK on the other team and you win.
