People being horrible

Sorry in advance if I posted this in the wrong place. I was going to put it in General Discussion but it wouldn't let me because I'm not lvl 30 yet:

Greetings. New poster here, and also new to mobas/LoL. I started playing a few weeks ago on oceana server and really enjoyed it. I made some friends, had a good time, and felt like I was gradually becoming less terrible at the game.

Then I started getting serious connection problems, and found that I actually get a much better ping from NA server, so I moved my account there 3 days ago.

Since then, pretty much all I've encountered is abuse. I'm not an elite player and I know I'm not, I'm a noob and I just want to learn the game and have fun. It seems like everyone I play with tells me to "get aids and die", "drink bleach", or "kill yourself". I haven't got a single person on my friend list since I moved servers.

I do understand that this is the internet and some people like to use it to troll or be needlessly mean to each other, but is there somewhere that I can go to try and find regular human beings to play with who won't tell me to kill myself over and over and over? I already spent a couple of hundred bucks on champs, skins etc so I don't want to quit playing just because of a few stupid people, but at the same time, playing simply isn't fun when everyone is so horrible to each other.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Nope, not really. This is League of Legends. Best you can do is mute them.

Usually those who are actually bad people don't do it in public because there are consequences, but they can get away with all of it online. The only thing you can do is spot them early, mute them, and report them.

But even so, that's not how most people are; you just remember them because they were annoying. The nice people aren't usually so memorable. Make an effort to converse with the nice ones so you remember those ones instead and get invites from them. Send lots of friend requests yourself too.

Try not to let a few bad apples ruin fruit for you.

You know, the Tribunal doesn't really appreciate behavior like this and you should feel free to report them. Maybe they'll learn to be less toxic if they get chat banned for a few games.

you can press tab or "o" to bring up the screen showing all champions and last known info on them. next to each champion at the right, there's a dialog bubble, you can click that to mute the player. If someone is negative to me more than 3 times, or say something super offensive, I just mute them, so I can focus on my game... it is a godsend xD

it will get better. I have too many smurf accounts, I've noticed unfortunately that at low levels there is a much higher percentage of rude attitudes... :( just try to stay positive. my first LOL buddy, left because of the attitudes.. I miss that fella...

Thanks for the replies. Didn't know I could mute people, I guess that will help.

Regarding the issue of noticing the bad people more than the good; On oceana server I was inundated by people being friendly, opening skype chats to explain stuff to me, and was generally experiencing a completely different vibe. Sadly my ping there was regularly spiking to over 500 which made it pretty much unplayable.

I reported some of the people who were rude at first, but then it got to a stage where if I play in a team of 5, I can expect at least two or three of them to tell me to kill myself, and reporting them all felt futile.

I also think buying xp boosts and practicing a lot against ai may have been a mistake. I think my level (28) now makes people expect me to be better than I am. The practice against ai seems pretty much irrelevant against humans as they play so differently.

I'm sorry to hear that, you could play with me if you want to. My friends are pretty nice as well.
