Ranked play during pre-season improves seeding?
What does it actually mean or do when it says it improves seeding?
What does it actually mean or do when it says it improves seeding?
Improving your "seeding" means it's adjusting your MMR (Match Making Rating). Ultimately, this means, when you start your provisional matches, you'll go with people who have your MMR. Thus if you win now, the preseason, it may improve this MMR and increase your chances of being placed into a higher bracket. Of course, the alternative is things get worse if you lose during your preseason.
Bump
Meh, I have learned from what little games I have played that if you play to improve and not win, you will improve. Thus, I am playing to improve. Still around Silver 5 0-40LP but I am getting better. This should help me place higher in season 5 right? I aim to be silver 3 by the end of thanksgiving and silver 1 by new year's.
Historically speaking when the new season starts, it soft resets your ranking. It does this by taking your ranking before the reset and "averaging" it with the default starting rank it gives to all unranked players. From there you go through your provisionals as per usual but instead use your new starting point instead of the default one.
For clarity
Default ranking I believe is silver (more specifically silver 3 or 4 i think) and their provisional matches will move them up and down from there
If you were Gold before the reset, then your starting place will be in upper silver (1 or 2)
If you were Bronze before the reset, then your starting place will be lower silver/upper bronze (bronze 1/silver 5)
Your provisional matches will work similarly to how they worked when you first started ranked but instead of using the default starting point. It will use your new seeded starting point
I just saw this:
Riot Socrates also chimed in on reddit regarding placements, saying:
"TL;DR losses and wins in placements won't swing you as far up or down, but you should expect to be seeded lower than where you ended the preseason because of the soft reset."
I want to know this too. I think I'm 9-0 in pre season and I was silver 5 in season 4? What would I be now?
jungle main around 9-0 pre season 5 carry 5 games of them. So if I could know what my seeding would be around before I am seeded that would be Great. Plz respond!
