Difference between normals & ranked.

I have recently read that a lot of pro LoL players started out playing a TON of normal games (like 1k - 3k) before even playing ranked. What is the benefit of this? Is there any difference between:

Rank: Diamond 1 Normal Wins: 150 Ranked Wins: 1200

or

Rank: Diamond 1 Normal Wins: 1200 Ranked Wins: 150

Is there a reason it's better to play a lot of normals before ranked? Right now I only played the minimum normal games to get to ranked and after 130 games of ranked I'm now Gold V. Should I just keep playing ranked or go back and practice in normals?

You can get experience by playing normals without destroying your ranked mmr. I have nearly 3K normal wins and my normal mmr is much higher than my ranked; I only play ranked to get gold for the rewards. Playing ranked while inexperienced kind of sets you up to be in silver/gold (or bronze if you're brand new).

A mixture of both will do you fine, and try draft mode~
