WHAT'S THE ONE TIP YOU'VE GOT FOR league?

Ninjacat990·7/7/2015, 1:36:04 AM·8 votes·2,578 views

I'm making an instructional website to assist players in league (think of it like mobafire but with more tips.) I'd like to ask some players and (HOPEFULLY!!!) a riot employee about their thoughts on the game and what a tip is for their success/ why they are failing (not that you are but if you're declining in ranks then tell us why :3 )

thanks!

Make small goals. Don't aim to be a "pro player." Aim to get more than 100 CS in 18 minutes, then 17 minutes, then 16 minutes, etc. Aim to die less than 6 times for five games in a row, then less than 5 times, then less than 4 times. Aim to buy and place at least 3 wards, then at least 4 wards, then at least 5 wards. Aim to get to Bronze 4, then Bronze 3, then Bronze 2.

The game isn't worth getting upset over. The feeders, the trolls, the chat restricts, the shit games...none of it is important. Just take it as it is.

thepay37/7/2015, 1:38:40 AM6 votes

play passively dont spend RP on champs

whats the URL of the website?

lightdragoon887/7/2015, 4:47:39 AM4 votes

Wards are important.

Use your trinkets

Upgrade your trinkets

Learn what your champion's strengths and weaknesses are - most importantly when they can hit power spikes and how to take advantage of that.

If you know yourself, and you know your enemy, you cannot lose. If you know both and you're superior, you contest and win. If you know both and are inferior, you avoid contesting.

A side tip - learn why certain runes and masteries work best on certain champions and situations, adjust accordingly. Buy a few more rune pages and fill them out before you buy multiples of Champions that you'll play once or twice then abandon.

I've got two if you don't mind. These haven't been mentioned yet.

  1. Learn how to freeze a lane and manipulate minion waves. Blindly auto attacking and pushing a wave is more detrimental to you winning lane than you know. It also puts you in a dangerous situation of an easy gank for the enemy jungler and a possible death or double kill that can easily be avoided.

  2. Learn to have strong map awareness. If you're going to split push, you need to pay attention to your map to know when the right times are to push without the risk of being ganked by the whole team and when there is the potential for a team fight especially, make sure you don't engage or fight unless you have the strategical advantage. Usually this means to not engage in the fight without your whole team being present.

PiRoScOuT7/7/2015, 4:19:43 AM3 votes

upgrade trinkets as soon as possible, and always be aware that there should be 5 pinks on the map at a time

insaiyanbacca7/7/2015, 2:33:08 AM3 votes

CS is far more important then it seems

ponkzy7/7/2015, 2:34:54 AM3 votes

stop dying so much

ShaftyMegee7/7/2015, 2:36:02 AM3 votes

Use pings. Super easy and it helps the team coordinate

Yakas7/7/2015, 2:39:26 AM3 votes

If your ahead, help others get ahead. If your behind roam and get assists/kills to get back. Sometimes losing a tower is better than losing lane complacent and then losing a tower.

MarTayTay7/7/2015, 1:44:43 AM3 votes

Learn all the roles before starting ranked Buy wards even if you aren't the support Never be rude to teammates, that will only make them play worse

Krigjer7/7/2015, 4:58:55 AM3 votes

If you go for a gank in the bot lane, it's okay to ignore the adc and kill the support if the support is in a more vulnerable position.

Also, learn when to stop chasing and take objectives. Having a ton of kills means nothing if the other team outscales you and you can't finish the game.

ChaosThief7/7/2015, 4:22:46 PM2 votes

A kill for a kill is not worth it. If you push them back and you're going to live, back off and farm.

RottedApples7/7/2015, 6:19:44 AM2 votes

Play every champion at least once over the course of however many free rotations in normals. I know people are like, just main a couple champs and call it a day don't worry about anything else, but having that single game on every champion will A: let you figure out what you truly want to main and B: give you some general knowledge on how to fight with and against them.

I understand every champion at a basic level and can probably tell you what any given spell does on any given champion because i've played every single champion and because of this i know what to expect from most champions.

Also, game knowledge =/= proficiency. Knowing is half the battle, the next step is applying what you know

Bemapon7/7/2015, 6:38:29 PM2 votes

Map awareness saves lives.

terkmc7/7/2015, 6:29:22 AM2 votes

No chasing Singed

Transgressor7/7/2015, 6:38:13 PM2 votes

Objectives win you the game in League Of Legends.

If you're looking for kills, I strongly suggest the countless typical run-of the mill FPS games out there.

IcyPepper7/7/2015, 6:18:22 PM2 votes

Know how to support, or at least know two-three roles. If you main something popular, particularly mid, you're not always going to get it (outside of Team Builder) so it's wise to have a back-up plan instead of a guaranteed loss due to ineptitude.

Mirage Seraph7/7/2015, 7:04:04 AM2 votes

Don't build champions the same way every game and exactly to how guides say to, there are more than 6 items in the game, use them.

How to win in 3 easy steps

  1. Know yourself
  2. Know your champion
  3. Know your opponent

tip I wish I would have gotten - do not play this game. uninstall it and run away before it is too late. it is not worth it.

Lich My Ashe7/7/2015, 2:35:00 PM1 votes

Never trust a Teemo main

Keltari7/7/2015, 4:30:30 PM1 votes

Pro tip - Remove all the enemies hit points and they die. Unless, of course, they are Aatrox, Anivia, Karthus, Sion, Yorrick, or Zac. Or anyone with Mord's or Zilean's ult. Or people with GA.

ItsJrodzYo7/7/2015, 5:25:46 PM1 votes

Do you want to climb Elo? Fucking play Swain

BattleBalladeer7/7/2015, 5:42:33 PM1 votes

Upgrade yellow ward. Always. No exceptions.

If you play Jax, LeeSin, or anyone else with ward interactions and do not upgrade it you are severely lowering your potential.

In ANY other situation you will also become nearly unkillable with proper warding because the enemy can never gank you.

Warding is the one most important thing in League.

Alternate tip: Always google your lane opponents' champions before the game is done loading immediately once you see what they have. Learn their abilities on the wiki or Champ Select [You champ vs their champ] ASAP. If you are really unsure about how to fight someone or you think they are a "counter", wait for them to make the first move and the mistake and always capitalize on their mistakes. i.e Yasuo premature Windwall, Tryndamere premature spin, Fiora wasted shield, AND ANY TIME AN ENEMY FOLLOWS YOU INTO A SWARM OF YOUR OWN MINIONS. The little guys really hurt.

Potato Doc7/7/2015, 5:45:02 PM1 votes

Dont learn a role (unless its jungle) Learn the type of skills and abilities you play best with. Are you better with skill shots or ranged point and click? Do you do better at the center of a fight? or kiting around the edges avoiding damage. Do you make good judgement calls or are you good at following your team mates? Are you more focused on picks? or more of a team fighter? All of these are more important factors to recognize then a certain lane you like to play.

TL:DR play to your actual strengths not what you think you are strong at

After losing a ranked game, play a cool down game on normal so you don't stress as much

Aevo 557/7/2015, 10:00:21 PM1 votes

Supports arent your slaves. Neither is your jungler. Spend the five seconds to kill 3 more minions and buy a ward (or use the free one) so you don't complain about your support not warding because they can only carry 5 wards at a time earlygame.

FlameHalbrdOkido7/14/2015, 9:34:03 AM1 votes

Tip: Know that it's nice having a main but explore other options as often as possible you may find a new main, so don't be biased about picking champs, go to Solo Que and experiment.

Try to determine your unique playstyle; not everyone is the best Marksman or Assassin

Don't spend money on runes, glyphs or quintessenes util your around lvl 30 and know how the game works and the champ that you like best works. Then you can pick stuff based on your play style

By the way I'm a friend of Shamont's. You may not remember, but he was going through his old messages and found that he had promised you an animation. He made it but forgot to send you the link, so here I am with that link. He asked me to send it to you for him because he got banned (fell for a fake RP scam, so he's banned from the boards). From now on anything Shamont wants to say here, I convey it for him.
