Provocation, should it be Reportable?

Hey guys just a curious thought from a game a few hours ago. My teammate was struggling in bot lane and to top it off the people they were playing against were dropping comments like "EZ" and "Thanks for the Kills!" and personally to me that ticks me off. Granted I am fine with a little trash talk now and then but if someone is kicking another person while their down it just gets my ire. So naturally my teammate gets frustrated and fires back with a slew of trash talk and the game is afoot, however I personally blame the other teams players for continuing to provoke a response even during the remaining course of the game.

So naturally after the game I report them for verbal abuse and instantly one of them flips out going on about "your salty, ect" and sounding oh so mature and intelligent. Then he dropped the line "you cant report for provoking" which personally I disagree, wanted to ask you guys if there should be a "Provoking" type of punishment, your thoughts on the matter ect. Now this is not a "he should be reported waaa" thread, just a curious thought that im interested to see what the rest of the community thinks. Thanks!

If you feel a player's behavior was unacceptable, report them. That's really all there is to it. It's up to the community to decide what is report-worthy.

When I voted on Tribunal cases I'd give people more slack for cross-team trash talk, but you can still go over the line in /all chat IMO. Some people feel differently; hell, I've seen people (granted, usually people who had already been banned for verbal abuse) argue that you should be able to say anything in in-game chat with no consequences.

If you're going to report someone, just do it. Don't tell people you're reporting them. That in itself is provocation. In most cases, it won't make a person stop and re-evaluate his behavior. It'll just trigger more retaliation.

If you didn't tell him you were reporting him and he spazzed as if you did, he probably got a warning from reports submitted before your game.

Saying anything with the full intent to get a Ryze (hehe) out of someone is considered verbal abuse if it's more than one instance.
Being a sore winner and rubbing it in would also make me contemplate reported for verbal abuse or something similar.

In the end it's up to you on what puts you over the line. Anything racial, sexually explicit, or just plain gross is a no-no for me :P

People can report for just about anything, just wait until you get a troll report. This is when you will feel like the punishment system is unfair.
