My Opinion on the current Justice System and Rewards
Sorry if this is a bit lengthy, but i have a lot on my mind about the current system used to ban toxic players and the rewards system, posting is misc since i guess Player Behavior is no longer a board. And before I start i will say that i have never personally banned myself, aside from maybe from leaving a game when i was level 12 years ago, and have a Teamwork ribbon from honor, so this isn't a complaint or someone being salty, but an actual thought-out argument to give my opinion on the justice system. I'll section it to keep things somewhat organized and put a tl;dr at the end.
Punishment:
So as thing currently stand i believe that the current system causes more harm to the average player, then it does justice to toxic players. Leaver Buster is one thing that i know people complain about, but i think it does it's job well enough to punish Rage Quitters or AFK's, disconnects are another thing entirely, and i don't know the technicalities behind the LeaverBuster system. But to help people who DC from internet problems or bugsplat, who get punished even though it's not their fault, a possible solution I propose is for LeaverBuster not to trigger unless someone from the game Reports them for "Leaving Game/AFK".
As for Players who are negative and Verbally toxic and the system currently in use for them, clearly these players only get banned from a high number of reports from other players. But when it comes to this, I don't think an "automatic ban" is very effective, and can be quite harmful. The Tribunal was good, because it allowed other players of the game to decide who is actually "Toxic" and who got the bad end of a stick. Yes people who are racist and who attack another player, saying they suck or calling them something that would be hidden by the Language Filter nobody on league seems to use, should 100% get banned, but in other cases which happens often enough, innocent players will get attacked by trolls, or a group of pre-made friends or gets reported after a loss in the heat of the moment, which can very easily add up in number of recent reports.
For example a friend of mine, will be slightly aggressive in games, and by that i mean he might call someone stupid for making a very bad call on baron, or telling someone they should go back to their lane. And their are people who will get offended by thing and report them for saying one thing, even if they weren't excessively toxic. small things like this should warrant a Chat Restriction, but instead my friend can get reported for 2 weeks, things like that on top of a premade all reporting him and telling the enemies to report just because he chose to play Volibear support, which is completely viable and not at a "troll pick".
So if we were to bring back the Tribunal just for Toxicity reports and Trolling, then other players can decide if the reported actually deserves a ban or not, because with the Tribunal we can actually see the Context of the reports since we can observe the chat log. With the automatic system it warns and bans you without a case. the automatic system will pick up on wards or phrases you use to "justify" the ban, without much or any context. for example my friend showed me one of his emails from a 2 week ban and it had things like "go back top lol", "fuck", "idiot", and "Memes can't melt steel beams". Things that are worth easily at most a chat restriction, and not a 2 week ban. So if we got back the Tribunal i think a good solution after the Punish/Pardon choice, if you choose to Punish that you additionally get an option to either "Chat Restrict or Time Ban" leaving Permabans in the hands of riot if they person in question has been banned on multiple occasions.
Rewards:
as of right now i know there was recently talk about players who have been banned, not receiving end of season rewards, and that a decision isn't final yet. and I'll say thing about it
I highly believe that End of Season Rewards (Gameplay Awards) for rank should be completely separate from Player Behavior (Honor) Awards. especially this late in the season, i think it would be pretty unfair to pull the rug out from under people who have worked hard, and put a lot of time and probably money into your game, climbing the ladder to Gold+ without giving them a chance to reform. That being said if Riot does decide to punish toxic players from End of Season awards i highly suggest that it doesn't get implemented until The start of Next Season to give players a chance to still earn what they worked hard for this season, since some players may have gotten a time ban without deserving it. If "reform" has been higher with your automatic systems, then i suggest that it might be from otherwise not toxic players, continuing to not be toxic after being banned from bad luck.
So Gameplay Awards vs Honor Awards. Gameplay awards should be Exclusive to things like Ranked and possibly Champion Mastery, and should not be taken away from Player Behavior, but having Honor awards like earlier this year where players got a free skin or champion, should be taken away. They should be separate especially if their are plans to further Reward Honorable and non-toxic players. And if The Tribunal comes back with suggestions i have made, then to encourage players to participate, perhaps reward players who vote by say, making a tribunal ward, they can earn by making X number of votes, or reward with something like a "White Knight Kayle" skin for players who have X number of Votes and 90% accuracy.
tl;dr Punish: Only trigger LeaverBuster from Leaving/AFK reports, to punish afkers, and help with players with computer/internet/bugsplat issues Tribunal return for Toxicity and Troll reports, to let other players decide, instead of robots. lighten up on time bans, and use chat restriction bans for negative behavior, foul language time bans mostly used for trolling (intentionally feeding, AP Pantheon) and directly threatening people to a high extent.
Rewards: Gameplay and Behavior awards be separate, Can't lose ranked awards from bans (at least for this season) Small Increase in Good Behaviors Rewards to further separate the two Rewards for Tribunal participation
So that's as far as I've thought this out, sorry for the essay, i would love to hear what other players think, and if this gets enough upvotes we get some of Riot employee and Lytes opinions too.
