I'm A Girl Gamer. Anyone Got A Problem With That?

No seriously, is the gaming community really as sexist as I'm told?

EDIT: Thank you guys for being so respectful. This post was meant to show some of my friends that gamers really don't care, and I think it worked.

Nobody cares.

I have more of a problem with you asking. I don't care what gender you are the game is amazing and fun to play.

People don't care unless you make a big deal about it.

No actually no one has a problem with it. Some people are a-holes, But that doesnt mean everyone is PLEASE dont drink the "Anita Sarkeesian" Kool-aid We dont care what gender people are, its about the game, not the gamer.

But again, there are jerks and entitled wad-spits in every community, but that doesnt mean everyone is.

League of Legends community isn't only sexist, but homophobic racist, Islamphobic, and any other phobics. I gotten into a game one time with a friend and she was tormented that she sucks because she is a girl. Sadly, this is how the community is.

You must be just hitting puberty to be asking these questions.

Perhaps you may be the sexist if you feel the need to even ask that. No one cares. If you piss someone off and tell them you are a girl, they will make fun of you for being a girl. If you piss someone off and tell them that you are a panda, they will make fun of you for being a panda.

When you shove it down our throat, then yes. No one is against you, so there is no need to be so defensive. I don't go say 'I'm a boy, why do people hate me?' But at the end of the day, you are a gamer, and you are welcome here :D

EDIT: Re-reading this, I realized it can sound offensive. If you find it offensive, it was never meant to be that way.

Honestly, I only care about how well you play. If you fed, ill call you a feeder, not a girl gamer. Its cool knowing more women are joinning the gaming community. :)

when you feel the need to flaunt it and 'be proud of it' i have a problem with it being shoved in my face at every turn i have things im proud of do you know any of them nope cause its not note worthy to anyone other than myself. things like this can go in the corner with femists gays who feel the need to annouce it everywhere they go and vegans.

There's going to be sexist people in every community, but if you want me to be honest...

You're coming off as really antagonistic right now, like you want to bait people into a fight.

Now, do you go around asking players if they are dudes or assume we're all dudes? If the answer to that is no, then you understand the mindset of a lot of us more laidback, gaming-focused gamers. Personally, I don't care what someone's gender is unless it becomes relevant (like we became friends or something, in a random game where we only play once together there's almost no way it's going to come up).

If you want to make a big deal about gender, there's movements and you can be active in the community to raise awareness I suppose. But when it comes to the actual gaming, nobody is going to make a deal out of it unless you do. Not a lot of us care in the first place.

better question would be "anyone care about that?" your gender doesn't tie into your ability to play this game efficiently.

Sarutobi1/4/2016, 6:03:12 AM1 votes

Its not as bad as others make it out to be. In general people just dont care. Its when you need to make it apparent that you are one, or think you should get things for free just because you are a girl. You will always find people who are sexist, rude, and anywhere in between, because that's life. There are millions of people who play this game, and everyone is different who has different view points on life. Some just like to express more, usually harsher than others. Same could be said about any other community not only to Gaming.

I think the amount of downvotes to your post shows that nobody really cares about your gender. We care only about players shoving their gender or sexuality down our throats because they're annoying and egocentric af, but that's the only reason.

insaiyanbacca1/4/2016, 5:25:48 PM1 votes

as others have said no one really cares unless you try to make a big deal out of it. the thing people seem to hate more is the random feminist posts that pop up complaining about characters, that may be where people get the idea gaming communities are like that.

The sad truth of it is yes. The majority of people adopt the 'who gives a shit? You're just telling us for attention' attitude, which is kind of a shitty way of looking at it. Are you seeking attention if you want to form an all girl team? Absolutely not, you probably just want to play the game with similar people/avoid the desperate mouth breather type. Either way, there's no problem with it yet the idea is often met with animosity.

Three categories in the gaming community: The 'who gives a shit? You're just doing this for attention' people, the mouth breathing creeps, and the people that will straight up be a dick to you if they find out you're a girl.
