Katarina's Shunpo: a lore question

Does anyone know what fighting style Katarina employs? How is it that she has the ability to teleport to targets using Shunpo? For the ninjas and other mystical champions I can understand how they have this technique, but I never understood what Kat's moves were based of. Just something that peaked my curiosity.

It's a reference to bleach. Shunpo (瞬歩, Flash steps)

Well, she's an assassin. I imagine that being able to teleport directly behind your target would be super useful.
