Dark Star Theory and whose perspective we are seeing it from

Alright so I am trying to settle a discussion between me and my friend. He believes that It is from our perspective. But I believe there is a reason behind dark star varus that is because he is the one being pulled into the dark star by thresh and thresh himself could have been the monster in varus's lore. In turn when varus was corrupted in this reality and became what we see him as right now.
