Is there really a meta?

So a couple of hours ago, my friend and I were going into a ranked game. (Low Silver) In champion select we all called our roles. I wanted to play Teemo jungle, I hovered over Amumu, and at the last second I decided to switch over to Teemo. That's when our top started to talk in all CAPS raging on why Teemo jungle isn't a good pick. There were two choices that I think that he/she could've made.

A.) Dodge and lose 3 LP. B.) Or just deal with the fact that was a Teemo jungle.

He/She started to threaten me by saying "Report Teemo." In my head, I was thinking... I don't even think it's possible for someone to get banned for picking an unconventional pick, because as far as I know, a Teemo jungle main got to Master Tier just by playing Teemo jungle. So I was curious. Why couldn't I do the same? Is there a problem with this champion? Yes I understand everyone hates Teemo but that doesn't mean anything, if I fail then I think you would have a legitimate reason to report me, however... if I do good are you going to still report me? Just because some champion wasn't in the quote on quote "meta"

Our last two picks chose Support and ADC. However, the ADC changed to Vi jungle at the last second as well. Lucky enough for me, I switched over to ADC since I was flexible enough while some people might just be really "salty" about stupid things like this. I understand that this is like silver, but people have to realize that you cannot just report someone because they aren't viable or unconventional.

What do you guys think? Is it wrong to pick a champion that is off meta? Aren't there such things as "one trick ponies" where they only play one champion in every role?

I can name a lot more. But my point is pretty much saying: "Why are some players whether it'd be famous people on streams or pro players able to play these champions and climb elo when people who just play the game don't get as much privileges like they do. Another question I have to ask: "Is it actually toxic that I, myself picked Teemo jungle? Or was it the top laner that was complaining about Teemo jungle in champion select?"

Look, I myself would be pissed off if I had teemo jungle. I wouldn‘t rage in chat, but I would be pissed off. It‘s just that most times it doesn‘t work, and most people know it. Is it wrong to pick off meta champ? Well, you can pick Quinn ADC or top, although it‘s not meta, but playing Rammus ADC makes no sense right? But I personally wouldn‘t advise total off meta picks in ranked. There‘s a reason why it isn‘t meta. Oh, and when you said that guy got to master by playing teemo jungle, wasn‘t that before sated nerfs

I find that it is very common in low elo matches to have a team composition that makes no sense. Teemo is an unconventional jungler, but if it fits into a team comp, say the opposing team has a lot of auto attack based champions, then I would not be upset. I think Jax is the better pick in this scenario, but Teemo would be preferred even if there was an ad top and mid on your team. It is very typical of low elo matches to flame other players in champ select for so called "out of meta" champions, when in reality it is more useful to say that the champion simply does not fit well into the team comp. This will rarely happen in silver-bronze even most gold matches. Champ select is where around half of all the games are won or lost.
